ARCHIVE: 2012-2016 Subscription notifications, questions, problems, etc.
Since a few weeks I am trying to handle the non-working subscription notifications.
I do get other e-mail from FT with no problem. I changed my E-Mail for the FT account to see if this restarts something, but it did not change anything. I checked the server logs to see if anything was rejected (using backlists) but nothing in the last 2 month. Also put in exceptions for the FT IPs. ANY idea what I can do ? |
Hi,
If you are referring to "Daily / Weekly" Notifications - there is an issue on our end and we are trying to resolve ASAP. Thank you |
I was talking about Instant Notofications. Is that the same bug ?
|
No, only 'daily' and 'weekly' are affected - instant appear to be working just fine; in fact I came here via one.
We do have some issues with ISP's blocking flyertalk or flagging it as spam - that may be a possibility. |
Now it works, I did put one IP for a Flyertalk mailserver on an exception list today, that might have been it.
Do you know if FT always uses the same outgoing mail IP ? |
I think because of some settings problems your notification is not showing.

Is there a way to enable instant notifications for specific sub forums? Or only for a single post?

I am still not receiving some daily alerts (even though I am receiving other daily subscriptions and gmail is not blocking them). I have tried deleting the subscriptions and then reinstating them but it has not helped. For example, I am subscribed to the Citi AA 50k thread and have not received a daily email since Nov 3rd. Mods, do you have any advice?
|
Same problem here. Apart from some very rare exceptions I have not received daily notifications in years! Just tried to delete all subscriptions and re-add them, but to no avail.
I am in Germany and my e-mail address ends in @mycompanyname.de. |

Appears FT is blacklisted on PSBL - http://psbl.org/listing?ip=98.158.194.50

Thanks Aus_Mal. Mods / Admin, this is the reason I don't seem to be able to receive any e-mails from FT currently as it appears on this blacklist.

Why are some E-Mail notifications from sender "FlyerTalk" and some from "FlyerTalk Forums"? Both mixed within minutes.
(Setting up filters.) |
I've posted elsewhere - with the same lack of feedback - to report that my e-mail notifications are generally arriving so late that they're simply a nuisance.
I'm a Comcast subscriber and have no doubt that it's possible Comcast is creating the problem but the e-mail notifications are generally worse than useless for me. |
Email alerts are a sitewide issue that we've been tracking for quite a while. I wish I had news, but we do not know exactly why some emails get delayed or prevented from arriving. We do know that FT is generating them, on time.

I changed my email address today and suddenly I'm receiving notifications of new PMs and responses to threads I'm subscribed to, even though my settings are set to no email notifications. Any ideas on how to turn them off?

Out of curiosity, without posting your address, what email host did you change from and to, if they were different (i.e. yahoo to gmail)? Paul |

Assuming you've tried MyFlyerTalk, Edit Options, Messaging & Notification, Default Thread Subscription Mode = No email notification...

I checked and it was set to No email notifications. However, I went in again and clicked on "Save" without changing anything and I haven't received any further notifications of responses to subscribed to threads. So, maybe that's all I needed to do, but it was strange since the only thing I did was change the email address. I am continuing to receive notifications of PMs, however, that's not an issue since there are few of them, relatively.
I changed from hotmail to me.com. Maybe just a glitch where switching email addresses causes that notifications setting to flip, without telling you. Paul |

OK, as long as it's working right for you now.

I get a small fraction of notifications for threads I am subscribed to. No idea why. Really stinks. Might move over to that "other" forum for this reason alone (though Wiki posts might keep me here, if they ever roll that out for all forums... FT moves slower than a Fortune 500 company innovates...)

Where are all those instant email notifications?
This little tech issue can be annoying: I post something in, say, this thread. I set it to get email updates. I see an email come to me indicating there has been an initial response/first poster. But then, nothin. Nada. No more.
I come back in here to find that like 15 people since replied. This has been happening to me on nearly every thread I am on lately. Old and new--ones I have started and ones I have joined. I know there can be a delay to see replies via email and I know Yahoo mail (which I have) can stink but something seems different and no, nothing is in the spam folder. I just dont get FT updates. Is it a FT thing? An email thing? (Should I like set my FT emails to go to gmail and if I still must use yahoo, simply forward my gmail to yahoo?) or is there something else going on? Thanks :) mm |
Are you logging on to FT after first response, or in your example, only after the 15th one has happened?
That makes a difference, as at the end of the subscription email it says "There may be other replies also, but you will not receive any more notifications until you visit the forum again." |
I am always logged into FT

Are you actually looking at the FT forums immediately after receiving the subscription email, or is it a while later? If it's the latter, that part of the email you receive that I quoted above would explain why you only get one email and not several. |

You misunderstood the question... I stay logged in as well, but I'm not browsing FT 24 hours every day.

If it's the latter, that part of the email you receive that I quoted above would explain why you only get one email and not several. I will tell you I often want to reply to a FT message as soon as I see a notification come to my email so I dont usually wait. And even on threads I do wait on, I still get more notifications. If anything it almost seems random that some threads send me everything and others nothing. I had started a thread the other day and got one reply soon after. I was going to wait for more before going in. Later I decided to check anyway and there were like 10 people talking. Strange I saw no emails on this. Had I not checked I may have never seen them for a while. |
If you subscribe to a thread, you will get a notification that someone posted in it after you last visited the thread. Thats it. Subsequent posts will not be forwarded. If you then visit the thread, read the response and the 15 after that, it will again notify you when someone posts in it.
Clear as mud? |
read it or weep, it seems. ok got it. oh well.
which is funny, cuz like I said, there are some threads for which I get instant email updates all the time and I only rarely view them. |
RSS feeds of individual threads may have been option once, don't know why it never came about: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/techn...l-threads.html

Stupid Question but.... Forum Subscriptions
I know I'm gonna feel like an idiot but ...... I can't figure it out.
I am new (obviously) and I went to some forums that I want to review. United, Thailand, SPG, Thai Airways, etc... To name a few. I clicked on Subscribe and get Daily Email updates. As of today NO email updates showing new posts or such. So please tell me how stupid I am that I can't get any email updates. I did look in spam folder... Nothing...  :( |
Welcome to FlyerTalk! I cannot help you with getting email notifications for forum subscriptions, but in case you're not already aware, the MyFlyerTalk feature may work equally well or better:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/membe...yflyertalk.jpg If you set MyFlyerTalk as your FT bookmark, you can easily check in to see the status of your subscribed threads and forums. In the screenshot below, subscribed threads with new activity appear at the top (orange box) — only threads with new posts are listed. Subscribed forums with new posts or threads are indicated by a bulletin board icon with two papers (green circle), while forums with no new activity have a greyed out icon with only one sheet of paper (purple circle): http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/membe...yflyertalk.jpg |

I am not even getting the initial notification that someone responded to a thread I subscribed to. Regardless, I would like notifications of all my threads I've subscribed to, not whether or not I've received a notification before or not. In my experience, other forums work this way, even blog post comments can. As a forum admin, I always wanted these to work to get people to come back, the owners of FT should want this. Strange. |
Daily notifications are back, I guess. Just (literally mere moments ago), I got a batch of emails for forums I'd forgotten I'd subscribed to.
