how does "flood control" determine time?

every now & then , i get "flood control activated" wait 1 min ...now, if i have entered 3 or 4 lines, i probably have taken a minute to type + the time to get to the new topic & decide to reply. i used to give up, but now, i wait at least 70 seconds & then resend. sometimes, i get flood again.. & sometimes it takes. i don't do smilies, nasties, & useless wrong forum post builders. any way , this isn't a serious problem, but i'm interested as an academic. i'm sure that it's been 1 min since i posted.

my guess is, that it is in the range of 60 to 119,9999 seconds since hitting the submit button.

Well, if you are sure that it's been over a minute, then it can mean only one thing: the server on which FlyerTalk is hosted is travelling at relativistic velocity.

Why not buy yourself a stopwatch if you want to flood FT? I keep mine set on 60.001 second intervals.
