Where do People Go when FT is down?

Whenever I am unable to access FT, I wonder if it is my system or if FT is down. Is there another site where people go and post information that FT is down when that happens? It would help me to know that so that I don't waste time worrying about whether I am having problems, rebooting my computer, etc. Thanks.

A quick email-exchange with close FlyerTalk friends shows that they share the same problem.

Many people are on ICQ, AIM or MSN (I have over 100 FT members there), otherwise there is a Yahoo mailing list and the website Ozstamps pointed out that mainly gets used when FT is down.

We have been asking for some kind of "status page" from FT for some time now but it's sadly never been created.

If our servers are down where would such a page be hosted? If our servers are down would you rather that we be working on bringing them back up or setting up a status page? There is also a problem in that some outtages are caused by problems outside of our control. The last "outtage" that I'm aware of was actually a central router failing in the Washington DC area that caused major connectivity problems throughout the United States. How should we handle that? The flyertalk server itself has been stable and running now for more than a month without downtime. Any outtage you've experienced in that time is related to a network problem that is outside our control and often outside of our awareness.

Thanks for the suggestions, but the reality is that a status page doesn't make sense to us.

John, there are several previous discussions of this, and several FT'ers have offered to help in this regard. See, e.g.,

Thanks!
