Keep your fingers crossed - and THANK YOU

Because of the recent performance slowdown on FlyerTalk, we'll be taking down FT Miles to check and rebuild it. It'll be going offline at 2pm ET today (12 noon MT) for a few hours and we hope to have it back up again later this afternoon.
Thank you for your continued patience and patronage.

Its 4:39pm and the AA site is still unavailable. There must be a corrupt file or someone has gained access and is trying to disrupt service (for what reason, I wouldn't have a clue). But this is annoying.

dan at WebFlyer Jan 13, 2003 2:57 pm

Still getting hit with traffic; not much we can do about that right now, though. Sorry about the continued slowness...

JIMCHI Jan 13, 2003 3:54 pm

Dan- Unless the site is under attack, traffic can't be the problem. It was working perfectly fine until Friday morning when suddenly it went belly up. Also, the AA board can't be accessed no matter what time of day or night. Those are not characteristics of a board which is experiencing "high traffic" from its members.
There clearly is something very wrong that you aren't getting at. Time does not appear to be resolving the problem.

LAX_Esq Jan 13, 2003 4:25 pm

How much traffic are you getting in the wee hours of the morning? I have no luck getting thru even at 5am EST / 2am PST. Doesn't make sense, this explanation.

DFWRaider Jan 13, 2003 4:51 pm

If it's a problem with the size of the forum, then old messages should be archived in another forum.

Based on the fact that's it's inaccessable all the time, I doubt it's traffic related. Probably a software problem.

No problems ender83 and Tazi.:

All AA posters are welcome on this fine little and otherwise disused ANSETT AIRLINES forum:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum13/HTML/000502.html

No technical glitches over THERE. Been positively HUMMING lately with all the traffic it now gets. There is a Free VIPOW being given away at random every hour too, not that would interest many of you. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

You can start threads on WHATEVER you wish re AA. Upgrades, downgrades, no grades. Good food, bad food, no food. You know, the same old stuff you posted about in the AA forum anyways.

But please, no flames wars or no blonde jokes over there. The unpaid, unofficial, ineffectual Moderator will need to take rapid and stern action if there is. You HAVE been warned. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/mad.gif

Good recipies for lamingtons and pavlovas ARE however right now being asked about, just in case you can assist. The only cooking I do is to phone Pizza Hut home delivery.

Thanks Glen! I thought you might be looking for some company over there http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Has anyone tried to contact Randy about this problem? It is not a "traffic" problem and Dan, despite his best efforts, is unable to resolve it. Clearly the AA board is dead with no hopes of revival.

Randy would turn back to Dan in a heartbeat anyway, and I'm sure he's quite aware of it. At the same time, the same comments were made months ago about the UA forum when we were having problems there -- everyone was convinced it was simply dead. Sure enough, it came back to life within a week and is roaring full steam ahead today.

Have faith, patience, and appreciation for the amount of work Dan is putting into this, and I'm confident your AA forum will be purring again soon.

dan at WebFlyer Jan 14, 2003 9:58 am

Thanks to Tim for isolating the main cause of the recent slowdown: the AA forum had some repeating corruption problems that we couldn't keep out of it, due to the constant hits. He eventually cleaned it out and things seem (for now at least) to be back to normal...
