How do I delete a message/topic? I tried to delete the first and only post in a topic that I started, including checking the box that asked me if I wanted to delete. However, all I got was an error message telling me that I had to be a forum leader to delete. Looking closer, I saw this conflicting statement:
"Only forum leaders (Administrator, Moderator) or the person that posted this message may edit this message (and only registered users may edit/delete posts)
Note: Only forum leaders may delete posts."
What am I missing?

Ultimate Bulletin Board is a stock program used on thousands of sites. But, it has heavy customization abilities. In this case, the FT Admins have set the rules so that only Admins may delete files. The text was not custom written for this site. That's why there's the "Note: ..."

Now that the upgrade is complete, and the cookies are working again in Netscape (thank you, FT team!), I'd like to ask the question again.
Can you please re-consider the "delete post" issue?
How about...
Posts can be deleted by the user only if the post being deleted is not the initial one that starts a thread.
Does anyone have a problem with that??

A big thumbs up for shadow's proposal.
I would go even further saying that someone who initiates a thread can delete their portions of it. Sometimes people inadvertently post multiple copies of an article, and it would be good if they could delete the redundant ones.

The technical issue is that the software does not support limitations on delete (unless they've since added new functionality.) If the delete feature is active, you can delete any post you've created. If you delete the post that creates a thread, the thread is deleted. FlyerTalk does not write the board software, they get it from an outside source.
However, if we're voting, I still vote enthusiastically for the delete feature to be reactivated. To the cries of "but people can delete threads then" I reply, "So what."
I really believe that point doesn't matter much. Egregious thread deleters would soon find that no one participates in their threads.
