The technical issue is that the software does not support limitations on delete (unless they've since added new functionality.) If the delete feature is active, you can delete any post you've created. If you delete the post that creates a thread, the thread is deleted. FlyerTalk does not write the board software, they get it from an outside source.
However, if we're voting, I still vote enthusiastically for the delete feature to be reactivated. To the cries of "but people can delete threads then" I reply, "So what."
I really believe that point doesn't matter much. Egregious thread deleters would soon find that no one participates in their threads.
