Indeed you did. So noted. And a Porn forum is a fine idea that I would gladly contribute to also. That is assuming anybody here were interested in middle age bald guys.

Back oh topic for a moment though, I would like to formally request this vote be counted as having had the requisite 2/3 by fact of having 5 for and 3 against with only 8 allowed to vote. (or do allow that 9th to decide if they wish to vote). One suspects a bit of taking advantage of this limited voting population in this case.

When TalkBoard members make their choices on how to vote, we do so not only with the wishes of the community, but also as good stewards for FlyerTalk. I've mentioned examples in the past where a potential forum might be immensely popular, but not good for FlyerTalk (Traveling with Porn).

In every vote, the number of people who vote is variable. We could potentially have 8 people not vote and a vote pass 1-0-0-8. (or fail 0-1-0-8)

I think there are better solutions to making it more likely that all representatives will vote. However, I would prefer to keep the discussion on-topic and address that issue in the guidelines thread.

Unfortunately, such an action would require a modification of the guidelines. We do not currently have a mechanism for what you suggest.

Now, now, careful with that axe Eugene. There is also no mechanism for rounding up to 6 from 5.3333. Again, lets look at this vote in the spirit of the result and not the letter of the law. We shed that tyranny many years ago. Sally forth with me and vote American here. Let us go with Vox Populi in this case for the sake of all that is right.

Are we referring to Vox vodka? Of course you would need oj w/ that to make it a healthy drink/worthy of the health & fitness forum

Cheers.

Alas, I am but one TalkBoard member and am not free to interpret, even mathematically, the results of the vote as I see fit.

I think a couple of the TB members that voted against it were spooked by the (relative) failure of the senior forum & lower count of other created forums. As lin821 pointed out, the group that would frequent the health/fitness forum would probably encompass a much larger set than that of the senior forum and have a better chance of being successful so I'm quite disappointed that it was voted down because of the concern re: other forums.

Because the majority of the FTers posting on the thread were supportive & indicated they would frequent such a forum, I think it will be proposed again in '09 and hopefully at that time will be approved.

Cheers.
It's interesting that people are blaming the person who didn't vote more than the 3 that voted AGAINST this proposal. Seems like more than a little bleed-over from the Talkboard Guidelines, thread, methinks.

Understood.

Can we get this chad in front of Randy by chance for a quick yea or nay?

He may want to weigh in or may feel it has been fairly dealt with and needs no further action. May be worth a look see though. I understand I would need to accept either one. What would you advise vis a vis this particular vote?

Another option is that if people want to post on the topic, as a number of us do, they all do it all in the same forum. I have used Omni for these threads but that isnt optimum for a number of reasons. Travel Buzz would be one possibility. Or perhaps the Antarctica forum might be useful in this regard. It doesnt get a lot of action.

I doubt he will change this vote as he has not been inclined to take action under similar circumstances with other votes.

My recommendation would be to PM or email him if you think he would intervene.

Roger that. I may do so. Will post here if I do and the response I get assuming it is mail he is comfortable with my sharing.

Again, as I said up thread, thanks to one and all. It appears there is fertile ground for this idea and a bit more work on the garden will possibly allow it to yield a better crop if it is planted again.

Actually I posted originally that I was disappointed in the decision because of the reason being expressed of concerns about the under-utilized seniors forum, hence my addressing those who voted against it, and had nothing to deal w/ bleed-over from the TB guidelines. In addition, I've PM'd those TB members to state more emphatically my disappointment w/ their vote on this forum.

Having said that, I am also disappointed that a TB member who had publicly stated her support of the creation of the forum was unable to vote. Had she been able to vote, the forum would have been approved. And if you think that's a bleed-over from the TB guidelines then it probably is.

Cheers.

So if a proposal does not pass, then bypass the TB and petition Randy directly. Is that a good summary?

Something to consider in the new term, IMO.
So when can we expect a motion from you to get rid of the Senior Travel forum?

I'd like to give Punki a chance to chime in before making a motion. Since she "championed" the forum, I think it's only fair.

Not to open the old wound, but it happened before, in the case of OMNI post count. Even when Randy openly, clearly and repeatedly stated the case is closed, there were FTers starting threads in ORP in the hope he would intervene or change his mind. Here are two example threads:

Randy, please reconsider your 2004 OMNI Post Count decision

Can you stand another perspective on Omni?

Voting Completed - Motion Failed: Include OMNI posts in Post Counts

All I can say is FTers are strong & independent thinkers. We'll resort to all the possible channels, privately or publicly, when things are not heading toward where our hearts (or heads) desire.

As for the result, well, YMMV.
