I would be in favor of this. And a good reason to not have posts count can be seen in the Food Association thread. I suppose people find these games entertaining and having posts not count could eliminate the abuse seen in that thread. I don't imagine the thread is as much fun if someone doesn't play fairly.

IAFIBB, for crying out loud!

I think there's a bit of a difference this time, re: "game threads" in Omni vs. the Omni post count discussion we had last time. I'd like to hear constructive suggestions on this slightly different topic.

I just want to remind everyone that there are times when I am speaking for TalkBoard as its liaison and other times when I am not. Clearly, I am not speaking for all of TalkBoard when I include that disclaimer.

Other FT members may feel differently.

I would also suggest that an OMNI Games Forum be open to all members of FT (no 180 days/180 posts), and that there be no entry requirements to play any of the games. This would open up the games to a substantial group of FTers that currently do not have access to them.

Wasn't the point of limiting access to OMNI to make sure people were here for the main purpose of FT first? I think the post limit should stay.

Tanks for the heads up. This situation is entirely my fault. There was a movement back in 2004 to eliminate OMNI post counts from a members total. If you look at the FAQ for OMNI, it makes reference to this. At the time, I actually made the permissions change for such. Since then, when the topic came up, I mentally tuned it out since i had thought all along that since i changed the permissions, someone was mistaken. As it turns out, I am solely the one was was mistaken and I do apologize. The other day, based on your post, i looked again and sure enough, the permissions was set to not include OMNI posts in a members count. Again, I'm thinking someone (not me) is seeing things. So i sent a note to our tech guys, Tim and Mikel, asking them what was the problem. Well, early this morning i was rechecking my own work and found the problem. OMNI has a nestled permissions folder and while indeed i did set the correct permissions to not count the posts in OMNI in one of the folders, i neglected to understand that it was needed in both folders. I made the change which should have been made back in 2004 and tested it myself this morning. Now it works the way it should have back in 2004.
Again, while embarrassed, I accept responsibility for causing the problem and am willing to accept all the humor toward me you want to flail my way!
Thank you all for actually being much smarter than me - you are the ones who did see things the way it was.
Best regards,
Randy
As for other threads. I have recently renewed my effort of working with IB to install several requested plug-ins which will assist you in other ways. One of the plug-ins allows members to "Ignore Thread." This means that if any of the game threads just aren't your thing, you can select them and they will not appear to you when you visit OMNI.

I know this was a subject that was discussed in the past.
In the last few days, I've noticed massive number of consecutive posts by a longstanding member. I first noticed this in the Food Association thread. Upon a bit of further "research", I've found that this person has posted about 18,000 posts in Count Up Thread including several runs of 75+ consecutive posts at a time in the last few days. Now there are a couple of other members who are starting to do the same thing.
My concern with this and proposal for removal of OMNI post counts are based on a couple of arguments.
1. These massive consecutive posts basically violate TOS anyways - post padding and consecutive posts. However, Randy is the only moderator in OMNI and he is often not available.
2. There has been discussions of people complaining that the "games" threads waste space etc. My argument here is that these "games" threads are no longer games for the "OMNI enabled" but become a "private thread" for one (or a few) members. In the Food Association thread, you can see this clearly, a few times a "general" member posted but gets totally ignored by the consecutive poster.
I strongly believe that if OMNI post counts are removed, this type of behavior is much less likely to occur.

I have only gained access to OMNI recently, and I must say I agree that there are a LOT of games/waste-of-time threads, and I fully support moving these to a sub-forum...
BUT - there is a lot of discussion around post counts, which I really don't understand. I hardly ever pay attention to how many posts someone has, and it makes no difference to my judgements about that person. So why the big deal about not counting posts??

As mentioned earlier by kokonutz, there has been discussion in the private forum about a games forum before this thread even started. While the idea is a good one in general, IMO, it would be very hard to enforce. How do you define a game and what's if someone misposts a game thread in the real OMNI? Randy's the only mod, and he's a busy guy!

Time to go lurk in OMNI and see when people start realizing that their post counts aren't being incremented.
