As you can see, large chunks of it are already alphabetized. It's a small matter of reorganization, should someone take the time and care to own it.

Establishing a much updated, and very readily available, identifying photo gallery would certainly be a excellent community-building option.

A poll would be an excellent idea, Canarsie, but this thread has become way too complicated, and is currently addressing too many issues for a single poll. Once the newTalkBoard is activated, it would probably be a good idea to make specific motions on these ideas, one thread at a time, and then, perhaps, activate polls.
You will notice that this thread was started by my honorable colleague, Cholula, in June of 2006, relating specifically to "smilie choices". I have done a quick search of the TalkBoard forum and can find no threads discussing this idea so I am wondering what happened. It is possible that the proposal never come up as a motion? Perhaps Cholula or some other current TalkBoard member can enlighten us.
Obviously enough interest has been generated by the discussions today, that several motions are in order.
I, like techgirl, find it really exciting to see a healthy, active, civil (for the greater part) exchange of ideas and opinions. IMHO, this is a very good thing, and hope that many more such disscusions, where people activiely present their own opinions, and refrain from getting snarky about other people's opinions, will ensue.

But that's how it sometimes works. We discuss an idea/concept in this forum and if the posters make a compelling enough case, usually one or more TB members will make a motion.
Evidently no TB member felt that this was a compelling issue at the time.
Or maybe we were doing something far more important at the time like voting not to establish a Singles Forum.

No to avatars (to difficult to police the content)
Yes to more smilies

Actually photo avatars could be very simple to police and not involve the moderators in any way.
All we would have to do is set up a Photo Approval Committee. Photos would be submitted and then approved by the Committee prior to going live. This way, no general member or modertor member would ever be required to look at any of the pictures unless they really wanted to.
