the next vote, when?

Voting mechanisms Voting will take place annually on the anniversary of FlyerTalk (month of May) and all active members will be notified via a board announcement and email.
http://www.flyertalk.com/townhall/talkboard.shtml

As some members (most of the 'appointed by Randy' ones) don't serve a full year yet (as they replaced former ones at a later stage), I would understand if they could serve a longer period than initially intended.

But how about a soon new voting about all others?

And I haven't seen any news for months now published on the Town Hall board http://www.flyertalk.com/townhall/

are there really now new motions under review (for months now?)

I realize this will probably seem like a frivilous post to some, but any news/responses to Rudi's fine questions?

As President, I would point out there are 2 schools of thought. Some believe the government should always be doing something. I happen to be from the school of, do nothing as long as things are going well. Therefore just because we aren't passing stuff daily, it does not mean that the board is not doing it's job.

I very well notice 'the governement' approach in the preceding answer by
a) just not really answering the main/initial question (the election date) and
b) not remembering what was promised when asked to be elected
c) making the asking person feel wrong when asking

My guess is that cigarman was not trying to make Rudi feel wrong about that question. I happen to rmember telling the Board that I did not feel that they needed to be active all the time. Now as to the question asked - which is a very important and well-timed reminder - by Rudi. Rudi is right, there does seem to be some timing issues that about now should come up for vote again. If I recall in a few comments to the Board, I had suggested that we vote to stagger the members, having the Board decide a good number to come up for renewal this year and vote in a few new members, etc. the same next year, etc. over a three year period so that we have some continuity but yet a changing undercurrent of new contributions. I'm thinking it was Sept. last year we had our elections going on and while they were interupted, it might ne OK to get this going again very soon - again, thanks to Rudi for the reminder.

Let me get with the Board and see how they feel of the number of members to change out and vote in new this year.

The only change this year will likely be that all Board members will become popularly elected - and for it to remain that way.

Again, many thanks to Rudi for his Swiss-like "timing" of the suggestion - it is correct.

As a former Talk Board member, I would argue in favor of disbanding the board. I think PremEx is right. Randy can get advice from whomever he wants whenever he wants.

The board had its purpose but its time has come and gone. I think my thoughts on this stem from the inability to support it sufficiently (not a criticism, just a fact-Randy is a busy guy.) or to implement its larger recommendations such as moderator guidelines (which were approved last winter by the way).

The board has largely gotten back into a friendlier tone (with some noteable exceptions). I am just happy that this board exists and will continue to support it in whichever whay I can, even if it was fee based. Thanks Randy for making this resource available to us.

Uff - I just learn today that you left the TalkBoard BlondeBomber. You are still listed as a member at theTownHall. Thank you for your work.

I am (probably not alone) very much interested to read (and learn from) moderator guidelines (which were approved last winter by the way).

Why not publish them here or at the Town Hall?

The agreed procedures, published in the Town Hall, 'forsee':
Minutes of the TalkBoard meetings are made available to the community on the FlyerTalk Web site. The minutes may be edited to protect individual user
I, learning as always, today also tend to agree in favor of disbanding the TaslkBoard. Randy can get advice from whomever he wants whenever he wants.

Echoing Rudi's sentiments, I too am rather shocked to learn of this BB! Thanks for the information, nonetheless, and for kindly expressing your opinion!

When we next meet, I hope to learn more.

Thanks again,

-Mark

Sorry to hear you left BlondeBomber, on behalf of myself let me thank you for what you and the Talkboard team has achieved, I'm positive that this isn't the end of the board, just a way to move on and make way for "fresh blood".

There are still plenty of issues on the board that a solid and wise group can contribute to.

I agree with Cliff.

But it's nice to know that Talk Board is in place if Randy needs it.

As the lottery commercials say in New York, "Hey, you never know."

Very sad to hear that you are now no longer a TB member blondebomber.

It seems TB member dhammer also agrees with this via his unedited statement above "I agree with Cliff." Rudi also agrees above. Echoing others I must say I certainly agree with your thoughts above blondebomber.

Talkboard seems (to me) like an interesting experiment that failed badly - for whatever reasons. An almost total lack of communication all year to general FT members WHAT they were [or were not] doing/discussing/deciding/voting is clearly a major reason IMO. We all live in countries where open government is taken for granted. TB voted to publicly gag themselves, and the TB website never showed recent motions and votes and resolutions.

A lot of GREAT people have resigned from TB ... and that more than anything else tells it own story. They were some of the most sensible and helpful and knowledegable folks on FT.

Randy to his credit tried out the idea of TalkBoard. If it is decided it did not work, going back to the 'old system' - as many other established posters have pointed out will mean pretty much 'business as usual' anyway. At least now there are moderators to make the thread policing job that much smoother.

How on earth can a replacement TB member be appointed from the results of an election held what ... 18 months or so back? I for one will be curious to read of the results of the current TB elections which it appears we shall be advised of in a few hours on October 10. I confess I somehow forgot to vote in this apparent recent "election".

These are the presently current and published rules covering this scenario - I have not seen them before, (or quoted before) so they may be fairly newly posted:

Resignation/Termination

A vacancy in the TB shall be declared if a member:[*] Resigns

A vacancy in the TB shall be filled by appointment by the TB, for the remaining unexpired term. The TB will use the election results from the latest election to determine eligible candidates.

Election/Selection[*]TB Member

Between September 15 and September 30, FT Members will vote and FlyerTalk Management will tally results. The new TB member(s) will be announced on or before October 10th. The Term of these newly elected TB members will begin on October 15th.

As has been posted AD NAUSEUM, the TB does not control what is posted to TB, FT, WF, IF, or any other website. If you have a problem with the dissemination of information, the election timetable etc. I would suggest you or anyone take it up with Randy and personally e-mail him. Otherwise it would seem to be a stealth attack on his leadership/ownership of FT.
