I would like to be enlightened about why someone would want to opt out of this. And not "just because". What rationale would cause someone to NOT want to be identified as a voter?

Privacy. It's not only that the presence of the badge identifies those who voted, but its absence identifies those who choose not to vote.

Is "because I make that choice" not a good enough reason anymore?

Your comment shows exactly why the current TalkBoard is held is such low esteem.

Wow... it's a good enough reason, but quite honestly, I was curious as well as to why it would bother you. That's in case I hadn't considered something and your reasoning could enlighten me.

Well, this won't improve things then. I am really surprised at how seriously you take your privacy. Most of FT does NOT vote. You'd be held in good stead.

Really, I am just about this much care over being identified as a voter or non-voter. Perhaps I should resign from TB since my thoughts reflect so poorly on the board.

It looks like all of this year's candidates have already voted.

The meaning of a absent badge....

There are indeed folks who choose not to vote. However, there are also folks who just simply do not participate in voting, which appears to be the majority of FTers who may also fail to realize the existence of TB and/or the TB elections.

To be fair, the current setup doesn't distinguish these two groups.

Not to mention the absence of this badge can also mean this: icon-disabled.

Well that's not surprising. Heck, even in real life elections candidates normally vote pretty much at the beginning (although we're now 3 days into voting). Not sure what your point is?

Cheers. Sharon

Thank you. This would seem to be precisely what B747-437B is requesting.

I'm not requesting anything. I'm simply making the case for why this should be an option in the face of others who seem to believe that their preference is the only valid one.

Personally, as a former TB member myself, I am in favour of anything that increases participation in the process. And contrary to what some seem to believe, you will get more participation by listening to what people might want to see, rather than forcing your views on them.

Good luck to the candidates. I voted early and often.

I tried to vote twice for you, but it wouldn't let me.

I listened to all input. I happen to agree with those who say that the badge helps foster awareness of TB and the election process. You'll get to disagree with me via your 2016 vote.

So just to get this straight, you would (hypothetically) advocate making it mandatory for someone who wants to vote in the TB election to display the "I Voted" badge on their profile, even if they are opposed to it to the extent that they would rather not vote than display the badge? Ergo, you believe that publicising the vote is more important than the actual vote itself?
