There is no need to keep up this pissing match. I have to wonder, doc, how many of your 30,000+ posts are unique? I swear I just saw this one in another thread, where might I add, you've made your position abundantly clear with the exact same post. Will I find this one in the Advisory Board forum as well?

Among the most important first duties as president of TalkBoard, cigarman assigned Vice President Mike (chexfan) the roll of research and implementation of new Moderators on FlyerTalk. This immediate action by the Board is expected to bring about a more even application of posting procedures and policing of member TOS violations. I think we're all looking forward to seeing the work of the Board in this area.

Do we now have, six months later, a "more even application of posting procedures and policing of member TOS violations?"
Not as of yet, sadly, IMHO!
"I think we're all looking forward to seeing the work of the Board in this area."
Yes, I for one, surely am!

Essentially, it comes down to some people needing to use a board like this as an extension of their own ego system. Since the Internet makes people anonymous, there is no accountability.
At the end of the process, there are only two alternatives that work. Make people accountable, by requiring that they use a paid ISP email account that is publicly accessible within their profile (and additionally have them pay a subscription fee), or close the board down completely. It isn't like the old days of the Internet, where these boards increased a company's value or threw off ad revenue adequate to even pay their costs.
My own bet, for what it's worth, is that the programming cost of converting to a paid (and accountable) subscription model will prove to be too expensive, and Webflyer will simply close the board. That's what I did, and I saved my company many thousands of dollars a month, and many headaches as well.
Sorry to be perceptually negative, but this is a business, and who would volunatarily deal with these headaches without compensation?

It seems, sadly, that Brian is no longer posting, along with many others, all of whom I generally miss very much.
I thought perhaps, bringing this forward, as the new TalkBoard is presently being reconstructed, might help us all to focus on the ongoing single greatest threat to the health and vigor of the FT boards, IMHO - OURSELVES!
Let's all be sure to make the greatest possible effort to insure that Brian's prediction that the board will close down does not come true!

It's my sincere and earnest hope that members will kindly follow the FT TOS please, and that the TalkBoard, and Randy & Co, will make far greater and more consistent efforts to kindly enforce them as well, please! Thanks!

Thanks for this bump. It's a fantastic reminder of the vast number of flyertalk upheavals you've been dead center of.
It's amazing the number of otherwise calm and reasonable people who you just seem to have so much trouble with!
Sadly, I know!

Really?
I don't have any real trouble with anyone, insofar as I know.
What I personally see is a precious few folks that appear to think that they are somehow "special," and that the rules, as I understand them, simply do not apply to them, sadly!

Of course, that is just my point of view, and therefore is of absolutely no consequence!
And of course, as you say, you "know," since you seem to feel that you know everything, right?

Have a great night all!

I just see one. The unfortunate thing is that he appears to be right that the rules don't apply to him. He is permitted to post in ways for which others are punished.
He repeatedly gets embroiled in these controversies, to the point that he actually [felt that he] had to leave the board a few times becuase he had made such bitter enemies.

And yet, he still returns and starts the behavior anew.
I recently criticized him for not learning from his past mistakes, but the shameful inaction of the board's leadership has shown that, in fact, he has learned exactly what the outcome will be. That those leaders will eventually punish the people willing to speak out against his incitant behavior, and he will return to his happy victimhood, looking for his next victim.
Is that one of the people you saw as somehow thinking they were special?
Who else could you have been thinking of?
EDITed to add clarification to the scenario surrounding the absences, since someone seems to be off and running on this tangent, while totally missing the point. To be fair, though, the March 2002 absence began with a 1-week forced timeout for behavior quite similar to what we've seen recently.

Wow! Get a grip will ya'!

I HAD to leave the board? Really?
I'm such a dimwit, I guess, as I never even knew about this? You are a "genius" for sure, no? Please be so kind as to elaborate and educate me about what I did, and why?

Who are all these "bitter enemies" of mine?
Are you one of 'em perhaps?
If so, may I say that I have nothing whatsoever against you, and that if you are a "bitter enemy" of me, it is a one way street for sure!
What shameful inaction of the board's leadership do you speak? Is this directed at Randy?
BTW, are you really asking me a question here? If so, may I politely ask why, as you seem to already know all the answers to pretty much everything, as I've noted before!
Still, to answer you, yet again...
"We all have opinions, to which we are all entitled, and there are many FT posts that I actually do not care for, yet folks do not necessarily know it, because I do not comment upon them.
I am not above the rules, nor is anyone else."
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum97/HTML/000756.html
BTW, if you do ever get a moment, perhaps you could address the questions I'd asked of you in that very same thread?
I'm extremely curious, since I lack any of the answers, thanks!
In any case, have a great evening!

I'm not seeing any suggestions here.
