Addressing TOS violations?
Addressing TOS violations? I hope so!
Perhaps it is finally time that we should!
As was previously noted:
---
Now we now have unfortunately had two fora removed from the FT Miles board.
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/006510.html
Yet the "problems" persist - even on a supposedly "closed" section of the board!
---
When is enough, enough already?
What should be done about this "stuff"?
IMHO, it IS surely now well past the time to do something!
So as they say in the oft repeated and sometimes even repulsive NIKE ads, "Just do it!"
Just a suggestion!
LETS ALL PLEASE collectively work to keep FT the great place that it has been!
Perhaps it is finally time that we should!
As was previously noted:

However, her snapfest on Doc today was quite extreme IMO and a clear violation of FT TOS:

Knock it off, doc! FT'ers have access to newspapers, offline as well as online. We don't need you to republish info from other sources.
You are an unbelievable jerk!

No, I am not the some FT TOS enforcer, I just don't like seeing good people get slandered on FT.
Maybe essxjay doesn't want to be a moderator any more? Dunno?

I'm sorry you don't see the difference between someone willfully deciding to do that in his home, and someone only wishing to balance the testimony.
And I'm sorry that the forum was pulled (punising the whole community) instead of giving suspensions to just those involved. I would have proudly served that time out if I knew it accomplished removing the other offenders as well.
I guess Randy felt he was faced with a Solomon-like decision, and chose to go after the baby. His choices were much more clear cut from the receiving end of the attacks, I assure you.

doc, I couldn't agree more. The current "fix" is laughable. I just don't understand the reluctance to enforce TOS. And most of the current issues are not even close calls, IMO. Ignoring the problem will not help. It is a very short-sighted solution to a deeper issue. Why should TalkBoard members, moderators and old-timers be exempt from the TOS?

You mean you still have access to the restricted areas even though you are no longer on the board?

As an individual who was ultimately responsible for the moderation of boards with similar issues to those faced here, I had exactly the same problem. Essentially, it comes down to some people needing to use a board like this as an extension of their own ego system. Since the Internet makes people anonymous, there is no accountability.
At the end of the process, there are only two alternatives that work. Make people accountable, by requiring that they use a paid ISP email account that is publicly accessible within their profile (and additionally have them pay a subscription fee), or close the board down completely. It isn't like the old days of the Internet, where these boards increased a company's value or threw off ad revenue adequate to even pay their costs.
My own bet, for what it's worth, is that the programming cost of converting to a paid (and accountable) subscription model will prove to be too expensive, and Webflyer will simply close the board. That's what I did, and I saved my company many thousands of dollars a month, and many headaches as well.
Sorry to be perceptually negative, but this is a business, and who would volunatarily deal with these headaches without compensation?

PremEx: I don't know if I have access to the restricted area (restricted for TalkBoard members) - as I never tried after having left (I thought that you know me better?).
I am (was) referring to the Advisory board, where I (and doc, ect) have access (were invited by Randy to join) long before Talk Board was born . ok?

Brian: as far as I know, all (or at least most) FlyerTalkers that 'doc. refers to in his posts above, are personally known to each other and are clearly identified.
At least, I personally have met all of them in person.

Thank You Rudi. I was never clear on just what the difference was between the various "board" forums here. There are so many, it seems.
And knowing you resigned from TalkBoard and your strong personal viewpoints on access to restricted forums for non-participants...I was confused.

I do not believe that they are exempt!
Perhaps some "action" was, or is being taken?

From the "About CMHS" link on the first page of the web site you so "helpfully" provided:
CMHS is charged with leading the national system that delivers mental health services. goal of this system is to provide the treatment and support services needed by adults with mental disorders and children with serious emotional problems. What are you trying to say here, Doc? How is this not a personal attack on another FTer? How is this "moving past the baloney" and "moving on"?
I don't get it. And, quite honestly, I don't care for it: as you can read from the above quote from CMHS web site, millions of American adults and children are affected by mental illness in a given year, and more than 5 million are diagnosed with a severe mental illness. Thanks very much, as always, Randy!
"Folks, we have something rare and good going on here. Let's try and keep it that way."
FWIW, IMHO, from my limited sense of what has lead to a possibly decreasing level of participation of "prominent" FT'ers of the past, it has been the increasing flames, bitterness and acrimony that causes it.
As I'd noted previously, politely offering a few suggestions to consider prior to criticizing other FT'ers:

As for other TOS violations, let's remember, when the odds are greater, there is still one little old one arm paperhanger here. When the odds are better (less people involved) i can handle that. When the odds get out of hand, it is reasonable it takes much longer to resolve. I don't want to get into jusy tossing people out - i still try and reason, explain and solicit their cooperation. NJDavid. Please excuse my question, but I cannot see anywhere on the FT or Webflyer site the words you embolded above: "You agree, through your use of this service, that .. etc" are indeed part of the current FT TOS. Can you point me in the correct direction if I have overlooked it? They might ONCE have been the words - that is possible, but right now, and for some time the CURRENT "rules" allegedly applying to all users of these boards say the following - any bolding being mine for emphasis, as those words seem pertinent right now:
Any posts containing communications that are knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, obscene, profane, threatening, harassing, offensive, vulgar, abusive, hateful or bashing -- especially those aimed at sexual orientation, gender, race, color, religious views, national origin, or disability - will not be tolerated and will be removed. Individuals who do not abide by these rules are subject to having their FlyerTalk account permanently deleted.
The current TOS goes on to say:
Personal attacks on individuals, insults and "flaming" will not be tolerated and will be removed.
and concludes with:
Is there a formal discipline policy for members who don't follow the rules?
Yes there is. Any member whose behavior causes disruption on the message boards, either because of the tone and language of their posts or their attitude toward other members, may lose their posting privileges for one week. Members who become disruptive a second time are issued a one-month timeout. A third strike results in a permanent withdrawal of the offending member's posting privileges.
I can't see that you posting "a sniveling little man with a mean streak that far exceeds his size"about another member - without apology - does not clearly contravene these rather clear-cut terms. I look forward to FT removing those words as they promise - and indeed several other personal attack phrases used recently, and these boards return to civility.

FYI - the current TOS also states very clearly:
So as I've been saying, I'm in favor of all of the offenders of anysections of the TOS receiving formal dicipline. Or none of them should, as long as it's equal.
But, an offer of truce and peace has been made, and is still awaiting acceptance from all of the parties. I see now, that "all of the parties" includes you CoachClass for you have surely caused a clear violaton of the currently posted TOS in posting this and similar statements in multiple forums.

Off topic Posts
Off topic posts take two general forms:
Posts within a discussion thread that detract from the topic being discussed.
Topic-starting posts that are placed in an inappropriate forum. When determining in which forum to place a topic-starting post, pay close attention to the forum description.
Duplicate Posts
Identical posts placed on more than one discussion thread.
Many participants in our community are very frequent visitors and weeding through the same message in multiple locations can be frustrating, and downright annoying. Good online manners dictate that you don't post the same message more than once. The online word for posting the same message in multiple locations is "spamming." We don't allow that.</font>

My posts aimed at doc are _not_ defamitory or abusive. They are are on target.
He is infamatory, abusive (to NJDavid - long-time member of FT), and to me.
How cares if whether I'm a moderator? Don't I have the right to reject a post?
If not, I quit.

What can I say?
Another sad day, IMHO, for FT and FT'ers!

Have a wonderful weekend ALL!
