The W Hoboken is rising pretty fast just three blocks from the Path station.

They are targeting a December 2008 for htoel opening and availability of residences/condos for occupany. We'll see.

I am guessing it will do good business... and the bar will join the list of "official Hoboken pub crawl" spots. ALthough the local crowd may have to spiff up the HOboken bar crawl image of jeans and shirts untucked.

More rumors of a W Hotel coming to Harlem, NY! Location would be at 124th Street and Frederick Douglas Blvd. on a site that used to house an Associated Supermarket.

This date is currently listed on the Starwood website but based on past experiences with *W openings I would say it will be pushed back the closer we get to Jan. 2008. I personally would not book a trip based on the Jan. 2008 date.

Rumor:

W Retreat & Spa, Bali -- With two Starwoods already in nearby Nusa Dua and a St Regis already under construction there, the rumor of a W Retreat should come as no surprise for another nearby beach on the island.

Sooooooo True!!!

First a Starwood Luxury Collection
then a Westin
then an aloft
then back to a Westin
but now will finally be a Mondrian!!

Here's a link if anyone is interested in the most recent article:

So PS is getting a Hard Rock Hotel and a Mondrian but still no aloft or other SW property!
You are on the mark with the trouble that not only starwood but almost any hotel developer in the Coachella Valley. Hotel Zoso had to practically jump through hopes to get that hotel on East Palm Canyon completed. In La Quinta, what I think finally is an Embassy Suites (I could look out my window to verify that), opened after changing names several times during construction becasue of the difficulties the city presented which resulted in one hotel chain after another backing out. Now we have the laughable situation in Rancho Mirage where despite the completion of the structural part of the Agua Cliente hotel off of the 10 there are still objections being made by that city regarding its height.
I don't know if you have noticed but where Date Palm ends into East Palm Canyon in Cathedral City there is an enormous dusty mess of undeveloped land on the south side of Palm Canyon. Everyone and their mother has been trying to place an upscale hotel and resort there but keep hitting the same roadblocks. Let's face it, this is the desert and any development is a welcome improvement over the natural state of things which sometimes result in snow plows having to remove sand from the freeway.
It is with great relief that I hear the same complaint from a visitor regarding the state of the hotel industry here as we locals are all but ready to throw our hands in the air and give up.
Best of luck to anyone who attemps a development project in the Coachella Valley. A place in the desert where every construction site is required to post signs stating "if you see dust coming from this construction site, call this number!"
Thanks so much for lending credibilty to our continued frustration in the Greater Palm Springs area.

The Hollywood/Vine location is under construction - the site has been dug out and they are working on the foundation. A sales office is open for the condos.

I saw this as well. I'm a bit suprised really. I wonder what occupancy rates are like at the existing properties?

In the local press hoteliers in Bali are always saying that business in pretty dreadful. Maybe the starwood properties are an exception.
