If you currently have a Travel Package Certificate that’s not yet attached to a hotel reservation, you have the following options:

- If you know when you want to travel, make a new reservation or attach your certificate to an existing one prior to August 18, 2018.

- If you are still trying to plan that perfect trip, you can hold onto the certificate and will be able to add it to a reservation starting September 18, 2018.

Please note that you will not be able to modify your certificate for an existing reservation or attach it to a new one between August 18 and September 18, 2018. Please plan accordingly.

Do not hesitate to reach out with questions. We look forward to making this transition as smooth as possible.

Thanks! The two questions I have are:

1. Can you share how the old category certs will map to the new category certs?

2. Once converted, will I be able to upgrade/ downgrade the new certificates like I do today and if so, what will be the cost to do so?

Rude is posting to ask questions and then ignore them. That's a message to Marriott not SPG lurkers who have been helping here for years (as we know Marriott abandoned this board long time ago so i doubt we'll see much answering in the future).

Rude is facetiously "correcting" someone's post. Rude is expecting instant answers. Just because they don't answer as quickly as you might like doesn't mean they're ignoring the questions.

I'm fairly certain that you cannot use Marriott certificates at SPG properties before August 18.

Forgive my cynicism but somehow two months of complete silence on tp topics despite countless questions on 5000 post thread makes me think they are intentionally ignoring them while planning to announce a change after a lock on 8/18.

i only hope its a sign of some particularly good tp conversion outcome and they want to prevent a run on the bank.

Hi Alex,

Will I be able to cancel an reservation with an attached certificate between Aug 18 and Sept 18? If so, will I recover the certificate upon cancellation as if it were never attached in the first place? Thanks.

I hope so to but think it's more likely they've been told very little in relation to all the questions we have.

Hello all,

We were able to get answers to some of your questions and appreciate your continued patience.

Thanks,

Travel package certificates expiring during the blackout period may be extended upon request.

We will convert existing certificates to similarly valued categories after 8/18. Members who know their travel plans should make reservations prior to 8/18. You will not be able to modify your certificate for an existing reservation or attach it to a new one 8/18-9/18.

Members will be able to cancel and get points back at a reduced amount.

After 8/18, certificates cannot be upgraded or downgraded, regardless of when they were purchased.

See answers above.

If you have an existing Travel Package and would like to use for a SPG hotel, you will need to wait until after 9/18. Or, you can redeem points for a new Travel Package under the new program starting 8/18, including SPG hotels.

Between 8/18 and 9/18, you can cancel a Travel Package reservation, but you will not be able to rebook until after 9/18.

Do you know whether the option to extend certificates an additional year will still be available after 9/18?

Thank you for the update, Alexandra.

This still leaves us with this catch 22, though: if you can't attach your certificate now because the dates or too far out or because you want to book an SPG property then you don't know which category you need to buy or upgrade to now to be able to secure that reservation after 9/18. If upgrades will not be allowed then you're stuck if your converted certificate does not match the category of the property you want. Could you please find out if there's any solution for this problem?

Thank you for taking the time to provide updates. I hope MPG will reconsider the no change to category policy as it is hard to know what package to buy or keep until we are told what category current hotel awards will convert to.

First, I agree... Thanks to the Lurker for responding, at least someone cares... I'm a long time Marriott supporter but the lack of communication from them on this is embarrassing. I'll reserve my final judgement on it until I hear how they are going to map the certs... The only excuse I would find acceptable is if they plan on being super generous, under that scenario I can see why they couldn't afford to tell us ahead of time.

How is THIS possible? With no conversion table now how can people make a choice about what they should do with their current packages?
