Yes! So it seems I'd give up out of exhaustion, but I kind of don't want to, based on principle. Disappointing, to say the least.

My apologies for the inconvenience. Since this requires confirming that you are the owner of the account, you need to do so either via chat or by phone. It cannot be done via email. If you should encounter anyone that does not know how to complete this task once you are the confirmed account owner, please ask to speak to their supervisor so the associate can get the training they need.

Any news, thoughts, or guesses as to a conversion of SPG Prefferred Guest Plus to the new Marriott program? Guessing it will be Silver just like previous Marriott matches, which means no more preffered room upgrades, but at least get to keep late checkout.

Even with the combined portfolio, unlikely to hit 25 nights a year to get gold and room upgrades in the new program.
