SPG Preferred Guest Plus
 

I swear trying to link my SPG Preferred Guest account to my auto club (AAA) has been like pulling teeth.

Three phone calls to SPG (two reps said call AAA, one didn't know what to do) & one call to AAA have yielded nothing. On the SPG website, it clearly indicates Preferred Plus benefits under the base program but no comment on how to achieve. Whispers are via the Amex & auto club. Also Preferred Plus mentioned via the Marriott merger as linked to Silver status at Marriott.

No place on SPG.com to enter AAA account.

Anybody on this board have any luck linking AAA to SPG to achieve SPG Preferred Plus? It's not much, but I'm interested in the late checkout benefit & Silver status match to Marriott (same benefits).

Thanks Markis10, tried that already unfortunately. SPG phone reps weren't able to help though.

I managed to do this back before I earned SPG Gold, though it's long enough ago that I don't remember how. That said, few if any hotels seemed to know Preferred Plus is a thing.

It was several years ago, but I definitely recall it being pretty easy. Not sure why you're getting the runaround.

My apologies for any inconvenience, but if you haven't gotten this sorted yet, call back to the nearest Customer Engagement Center and if an associate is unable to assist you ask to speak to their supervisor.

Thanks William, actually the most help I've gotten was from the email address listed in your signature! One of your reps confirmed that my SPG account is linked to my auto club (AAA), so I'm hoping it is just a delay in SPG updating my status to Preferred Guest Plus.

There shouldn't be any delay. If the SPG account and the AAA account are linked, it is then a one-step process to complete the upgrade.

Would you mind sending me the email string to the email address below so I can look into this further? TIA

William, You are an amazing resource thank you for your help here! I see my SPG account is updated with Preferred Plus, do you know how long it takes for status match to Marriott Silver? Looking forward to my upcoming stay in Tampa.

After you take action to link the two accounts, it should be updated within 24 - 48 hours.`

Hello, sorry to revive an old thread, but was this successful for you?

I've called SPG customer service 3 times, and even confirmed with a supervisor -- all 3 of them have said explicitly that there is no way to attain Preferred Plus unless I have an Amex card, and that AAA doesn't change status. All it will do is give me the best rate. They did take down my membership but it doesn't reflect a status or tier change in my account, so I'm just wondering whether you managed to get this to reflect in your account? Thanks!

Click on Join SPG at this Starwood link and it will show you the benefits of AAA membership coupled with your SPG membership.

Thanks! Yes, I've done that. Also called in to customer service. I'm looking to get the Preferred Plus on my account (actual status change) so it will match to Marriott silver. Is that not a thing anymore? Multiple SPG reps have told me it doesn't change status, only gives anymore discounted rate.
