Property: Sheraton Hanoi
Date(s): 2 nights
Room booked: cheapest
Room received: Executive Suite
Award stay: no
BRG stay: no
SNAs redeemed: no
Comments: Decent hotel. Good breakfast. Cheap. Nothing to write home about… it's definitely still a Sheraton.

Property: Le Meridien Saigon
Date(s): 4 nights
Room booked: cheapest
Room received: Club Deluxe Room (1 night) / Grande Suite (3 nights)
Award stay: no
BRG stay: no
SNAs redeemed: no
Comments: Asked for an upgrade, but no suites were available the first night. The following night, however, they were able to upgrade to a suite. Loved the rooms here. Great hotel; but the lack of a real lobby bar is a bit disappointing. Solid club lounge.

Property: W Taipei
Date(s): 2 nights
Room booked: cheapest
Room received: Spectacular Room
Award stay: no
BRG stay: no
SNAs redeemed: no
Comments: Had a pretty mediocre experience with the service, and the property is starting to show its age. That said, it's a W, so it's always fun. They were sold out of Marvelous Suites but had other suites available, yet they flat out refused to upgrade me despite being Plat75.

Property: Prince Gallery (Luxury Collection) Tokyo
Date(s): 4 nights
Room booked: Deluxe Room (only room left, otherwise sold out)
Room received: Deluxe Room (1 night) / Grand Deluxe Premier (highest room category. 3 nights)
Award stay: no
BRG stay: no
SNAs redeemed: no
Comments: Had a rough check-in experience because my travel agent screwed up and didn't add my SPG number to the reservation. (So checkin was at the front desk, not lounge; and they had to scramble to give plat benefits unexpectedly once I asked them to add my SPG number). Absolutely fantastic property. Honestly this might be my new favorite in the Starwood portfolio. They didn't have a better room available for upgrade on check-in day, but the following day they were able to give a Grand Deluxe Premier room which is 62m2 and is the best room category they have. Absolutely fantastic room, though I even loved the based room that they gave the first night.

So you get night/stay credit from travel agent bookings as well? I thought it had to be booked direct?

Property: Le Parker Meridien - NYC
Date(s): 1 night in November
Room booked: Park View Standard King
Room received: Diplomatic suite (one level below Presidential Suite)
Award stay: no
BRG stay: no
SNAs redeemed: no
Comments: Booked this directly through SPG app and it was actually cheaper to book a breakfast package than the regular rate (it was prepaid). Reached out to hotel to see about in-room options to make our anniversary stay more special (we've stayed here several times before in the junior suite category but wanted a park view this time around). Heard back and was immediately upgraded to a "Deluxe Park View King" that day. On the day of check in I noticed the app updated and I was placed in a Diplomatic Suite which is around 900 sf and has a living/dining room, two separate bathrooms and a beautiful bedroom. A pretty awesome upgrade for a Saturday night stay!

Helpful hint - look for the breakfast package when booking as this included the "American Start" which was the highest tier and a much better value than taking the plat amenity of grab and go in the lobby bar. It was also about $30 cheaper to book this option the day I booked.

Property: W Chicago - Lakeshore
Date(s): November 18th - 22nd, 2016
Room booked: Wonderful Room
Room received: Fabulous Room
Award stay: No
BRG stay: Yes
SNAs redeemed: No
Comments: No Marvelous Suites available when we checked in; the only one available was the Extreme Wow which is obviously not in the upgrade pool. Still got a great upgrade to a Fabulous Room on the 29th floor with phenomenal views over Lake Michigan. Great staff, standard rooms are pleasantly spacious and the L-shaped couches make the space easier to spread out in.

Westin Palace Madrid
4 nights November. Points stay using SNAs. Junior Suite ( at least I guess that's what it was, separate living room, 1&half baths). Probably would have got that upgrade anyway but I wanted the certainty.
Platinum breakfast now comes with a card to be presented in the restaurant: " Platinum Continental Breakfast". However, no one was very interested in it and I just had whatever I wanted from the extensive buffet and anticipated getting a bill/being charged as appropriate ( but no bill, no charge).
First stay here for 5 or 6 years: nice, relaxing, convenient.

Using Citi's concierge service for 4th night free; counts as a corporate travel portal and is eligible for full stay/night credits.

Room received: 900 sf suite
Award stay: no
BRG stay: no
SNAs redeemed: yes
Comments: Hotel must have been fairly dead but the upgrade was truly amazing. Large suite with dining room table for six and great river views. Only odd note was that I was required to sign some sort of a waiver that I would not invite all my BFFs over to the suite for a wild party.

Comments: Just checked in. Seriously lovely suite [tee hee] with lots of open space. As a big fan of Philippe Starck's work, I love the hotel's design aesthetic and look forward to exploring more of it. Service seems off to a great start too - Mary at the reception in particular is FABULOUS. Looking forward to the rest of this stay.

Comments: BRG rate 176 euros (with breakfast). Originally used SNA for JR. Suite but it got rejected as property now are renaming JR suites to deluxe suites. Anyways they should rectify this as as of the moment, property is not participating in SNA due to renaming. In any event, got a bigger suite (called "premium deluxe") with super high ceilings and just unique in design. Kinda baroque'ish feel to it

Comments: Very nice stay in this newly renovated property. Yes it is big and not very well located, but it worked fine for us and our teenage boys. Uber was the factor in getting around. Club was nice, and never crowded. The food offerings at breakfast were adequate, and we only went once in the evening and it was very basic.

Comments: This was the stay that was needed to reach platinum status. I was told at
