I really need the suite upgrade to clear ahead of time, since despite having stayed more than 10 times at Westin KL, I have never received an upgrade higher than room with lounge access.
I have NEVER had a Suite night upgrade clear, regardless of how far in advance I book or how many rooms are free. It is a worthless perk for the most part if you try to stay at a popular hotel.

It's probably not your doing (although I would really like to think so) but I received a confirmation about 2PM hotel time that the upgrade has been confirmed. ^

So thanks to you, or thanks to the system.

Remember, the website does not show what rooms are available for SNA upgrades. It does show rooms with the same name that the property is still willing to sell if they exist or not.

Congrats on getting it cleared.

Suite Night Awards

I wonder if I am missing something. I applied SNA to a reservation, it is within 3 days of arrival and upgrade suite category showing available. My SNA is not confirmed and Platinum Concierge advised nothing can be done unless the system confirms it. Hence, even if upgrade category is available, SNA still may not be confirmed?

Where are you seeing upgrade suite inventory? This does not show up on SPG.com. Even though they use the same name as rooms they are selling, SPG does not show what portion of the rooms are allocated to SNA availability.

You might want to read http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/starw...ndar-year.html . You will see many posts that there have been issues processing SNAs and the Lurkers have offered to look into particular situations if you PM/eMail them your reservation specifics.

Thank you for pointing me to the right thread. I thought I read it somewhere.

What you saying is that SNA is capacity controlled. I didn't realize that. The Platinum Concierge I spoke to didn't know it either. She just said it looks strange but nothing can be done as SNA is a fully automated process.

Perhaps this should be merged into existing thread.

Just like all rooms are capacity controlled. The property determines how many rooms they wish to offer (not limited to actual rooms available), they also get to specify how many rooms will be available for the SNA process. Unfortunately SPG chose to make that process a black box and not disclose to anyone, including their CSRs, where things stand.

A request to merge has been submitted.

T&C for SNA only states:

3. Suite Night Award use is based upon availability of the requested suite or premium room within 5 – 1 day prior to arrival.
Starwood should add something like "SNA is capacity controlled and may not be available even if suite is available for sale" to T&C.@:-)

Except that there are no capacity controls, but the web site does not often reflect what is for sale at the moment the system checks for what is truly available.

I've said it before...everyone should stop using the web site to determine whether a suite is available for using SNA's. The system isn't checking spg.com for suite availability, so what may or not be selling there is irrelevant.

While I understand why this advice is given is amazes me that Starwood didnt see this is exactly what people would do with SNA's and it would cause a lot of confusion and angry customers leading to less loyalty rather than more towards SPG! Afterall its the logical thing to do, check the only way of seeing if your SNA is likely to clear!

Afterall properties can always be fully trusted to give upgrades when due and would never look to find ways of avoiding doing so if it can have a posibilty of increasing their revenue.

I do like Starwood a lot but the SNA program is something best not to get me started on! Rant over!

But the Platinum Concierge checked her system and it showed the same thing. So, neither spg.com nor Starwood reservation system used by Platinum Concierge shows correct inventory?

I'm fairly certain that she did not check it at the precise time the system did. @:-)

Rather unfortunately, with these awards, it seems the message is that from a consumer perspective there is no method to check the sanctity of the stated process. Either online at spg.com or from the hotel or from the ambassdor or platinum conceirge.

All you can rely on is the "hope" that the system does the right thing, but no way to check if you feel it doesn't. A case of:

Trust the system but we can not let you Verify.

Personally, I have now stopped relying on these awards for special occasions completely. Either I book the suite, or more often than not, use Hyatt for that stay where I can confirm a diamond suite upgrade at time of booking and know the exact, "shennanigan-free", suite that I will get with no uncertainty.

Even though I am still batting 100% on SNAs this year, I too always lock in a suite when it's really important to me. I've occasionally booked elsewhere, but I can't find Hyatt in Rome, Tel Aviv and Cayman, three of my favourite vacation spots. The former Cayman Hyatt seems to be a timeshare or something now.

Cheers,
