*A lounge access?
I was reading some stuff on *A website, and it reads:
"Star Alliance Gold card holders and one guest, have access to any lounge around the world that is identified with a Star Alliance Gold lounge sign when departing on a Star Alliance flight, no matter which class of service they travel in. Just look for the Star Alliance Gold sign outside the lounge and present the ticket for your same-day Star Alliance flight, your boarding pass and your frequent flyer programme card featuring the Star Alliance Gold logo. Guests must enter the lounges with an eligible Star Alliance Gold member and must depart on a Star Alliance member airline, but may travel on a different flight."
Does this mean that my Platinum status on US gets me in a any *A lounge, regardless whether I travel in coach or F?
Thanks!
JP

Actually, it depends.
On the star alliance website:
"United Airlines' Premier Executive and Premier Executive 1K customer and US Airways' Chairman Preferred and Gold Preferred customers have access to U.S. domestic United Red Carpet Club and US Airways Club locations only when they present a ticket or boarding pass for a same-day international flight."
So, yes, if you are flying international (even in Y). But, no, if you are flying domestic (regardless of class of service)

So in your case it depends, if you decide to switch to another *A program other than UA and US and manage to attain *G status you will always have lounge access everywhere, including US domestic.

But, you will have access to any *Gold lounge. So in most airports you will have access to a lounge when traveling on any Star Alliance carrier in any class.
The other big exception is that *Gold from US based carriers will not get you into their lounges when flying domestically. *G from none US based programs however will. See the post by UALboy.
This is one of the biggest benefits of *Gold status: Lounge access even when flying economy.

As stated when flying UA/US as a UA/US *G I cannot use the lounges when flying domestically, although I am US Plat and UA 1P.
I happen to also be BD*G, and can enter the US/UA lounges when I present my BD DC-Gold card.
So it can be misleading.

Lounge access w/o card
I hope that I am wrong. Do I need the card to gain access to *G lounges in Asia? I will qualify as *Gold/UA Premier Executive on my flight to SIN. I assume I would be okay at a UA lounge but what about Asiana, Singapore Airlines or Thai?

PS If the card is necessary, I could attempt to have my *G card sent to me.

Per rule, actual card is necessary.
However, I have been successful getting into SOME of the lounges without it.
You can also request MP CS to email or fax you a confirmation letter that you are actually *G.

You CAN use the United lounge. What was stated above was talking about those people that earn their Star Gold status through UA and US. They can't use lounges at all domestically. You CAN use United Red Carpet Clubs within the US, though.

Let me ask the next dumb follow-up question. I'm *Gold by virtue of my USAir status (Chairmans). I'm flying US and United through Atlanta on a totally domestic ticket (going to Hawaii). Can I use the Lufthansa lounge at the Atlanta airport as a *Gold, even though I can't use the RCC (or the US lounge, if it existed)?
For bonus credit, anybody want to tell me if there are lounges I could use at DEN, SFO, LAX, ORD, or HNL as a mere US preferred?

PS There are some rules that preclude access if there is a stopover between the lounge access and the international flight.
