a uk-based frequent-flier- friend just forwarded me some days ago an email from BNritish Midland, saying that BD-segments can be included starting oct-1-2000:

Thank you for your mail regarding the STAR Round the World Fare.
I would like to take this opportunity to apologise, that despite British Midlands intentions we were unable to participate in the Round the World Fare from our STAR joining date.
The Round the World Fare product is extremely complicated and British Midland were told by existing STAR member that due to issues
with regards to sales, marketing and revenue distribution we would have to delay our inclusion in this product.
I am pleased to be able to tell you that these issues are now resolved and British Midland will be included in the Star Round the World
fare from 1 October 2000.
We have also taken the step of allowing Round the World bookings on our services via the Lufthansa Codeshare flight numbers, if you
contact you Agent they will be able to book you on a connecting flight from Edinburgh using the LH flight number with immediate effect.
I would again like to apologise that our delay in joining this product has caused you such inconvenience, and I would like to thank you
for your interest in flying British Midland and hope that you have a enjoyable honeymoon.

are you sure that the UA-Express rules changed (for the better) - or could this just be just (another) overlooking by the issueing agent as it was the case for me a year ago?

thank you for bringing this up - I always like to include some LAX-SNA flights 'costing' me just 36 miles towards the 29'000 rtw-ticket-limit, but being credited with 1'000 miles (status miles too) into my LH-miles&more account.

With $79 RT fares and 2500 miles per RT it would only take $3160 and 40 RTs to make Senator! Do you get 125% on Sh*ttle now too, even on discount fares?

Kilo for Kilo, AC might be your best bet, because of the 35K * Gold level.
However, milage accumulation on AN discount fares is only 70% of actual milage (25 for flights under 500 miles). (You can avoid that problem by doing your RTW on other carriers).

It has been said before, and bears repeating - it all depends on what is important to you. Is is star gold qualification? Then AC will get it at a lower threshold. Are upgrade certs in Australia important? Then AC is a very poor choice. Are you planning on travelling enough to make highest tier? All the programs have their advantages and disadvantages, and are best compared on an individual basis using Blondebombers chart referenced above. None of us knows enough about your situation to make that decision for you.

Hi,
Basically, I don't fly often (I'm a student) - what I'm looking for is a program that will get the most miles (unlike AN usually 70%) What are the bonuses like for Star partners? I know this varies, but any clues?

goodo: there is now easy answer.[*]not all miles (or points with some StarAlliance-ff-programs) have the same values.
I, for myself, use miles for upgrades (but as a student, you will probably use your miles for free eco-rides?), and as a European based LH-ff-member I need, in average, >50% more miles for an upgrade than North-American based members or also >50% more miles than I would have to spend UA-miles for the same itinerary - but then again, LH miles for upgrades are good on any fare, not so UA miles, etc. etc.
