1W allows you to purchase the ticket wherever, and it can be written on whatever carrier's ticket stock. it is priced based on the country of origin, and paid for in the currency of the country purchased.

*a is bullying you guys. you shouldn't stand for it. isn't being extremely helpful with a customer who is spending a few thousand dollars on a ticket the point of these alliances?

or i am just being naive?

I think the * Rules are 7 days for all of them, but I wouldn't swear to it.

official text (Star Alliance, Round the World, may-2000):
[*]No advance purchase ex TC2 (Europe/Africa)[*]no advance purchase ex TC3 (Asia)[*]7 days advanced purchase ex TC1 (America)

Just to clarify, by "all of them" I meant all of the various fares ex-Canada. I knew that the advance purchase rules were different in other regions.
