Upgrading On EVA

Hello. This should be easy to answer... I'm flying EVA next week from LAX-TPE. We currently are booked in Elite on the 777-300ER and I have tried looking to see how much it is to upgrade on their website but I haven't been able to find anything and wondering if it's cheaper to do it at the airport or will they even let me do it? Thanks!

How do you want to upgrade? Points? $$$?

What fare are you currently on?

I am not sure if the T class is upgradeable (even though it costs more than the K class on occasion). AFAIK, only the Y, B, K fares are upgradeable. However, if you upgrade with $$, they may be able to work out a difference in fare discount. Not sure about the cost-it seems different people have quoted different amounts. The upgrade with united miles is 30k one way.

You can always pay the fare difference and move up to higher class.

If you are looking for something like pay a small amount to upgrade, I don't think
they have a formal programme, you can always inquire at checkin

They offer an upgrade at check in for X cost

EVA's upgrades are generally very fair because the route that is longer has an longer flight time will have an higher upgrade price by an few hundred dollars.

I.e. LAX to TPE is longer than TPE to LAX

Hello Everyone,

I've been a *gold member with Air Canada for some years now. For the past 2 years since EVA joined Star Alliance, I've been buying B class fares with them and using my Aeroplan miles to upgrade to Roayl Laurel. Usually YYZ-TPE-MFM and back.

However, when I tried to do this again this week. I was told by EVA that they no longer allow star alliance upgrades on "married segments", i.e. layovers in TPE less than 24 hours.

They only way they said that I can upgrade using my miles is if I fly only YYZ-TPE-YYZ, or choose a connecting flight to Macau/HK that is more than 24 hours from the arrival flight and vice versa.

Has anyone else run into this issue???

P.S. EVA offered a full refund without charges since "this is a new rule this year" according to their customer service rep.

*A upgrades on other carriers usually are per segment. I would think they would have to offer *A upgrades on a per segment basis at least so if you are flying YYZ-TPE-MFM are OK with only an upgrade only on the YYZ-TPE segment they might be able to do that. If they won't even do that then I would contact *A because they claim this as a listed benefit of *A so if a *A airline isn't following the *A rules there may be some pressure put on by *A. Note that there has to be *A upgrade availability.

Bolding mine.
With an upgrade award you can use accumulated miles or points to "pay for" an upgrade, allowing you to fly in a class of travel that is one higher than your original booking. This award is applicable across all 28 member airlines. Star Alliance is the only alliance to offer this benefit between all its airlines.

How to upgrade:
Through the *A link I can select an Aeroplan page to request a *A upgrade. Have you tried using the link on the Aeroplan website to request an upgrade?

          http://www.aeroplan.com/saua/Upgrade.do

Redeem your miles to upgrade one segment, one cabin of service on your purchased ticket when traveling on flights of participating Star Alliance carriers
