*A upgrade system down, alteratives?

*A upgrade system down, alteratives?
(Apologies for cross-post from AC forum; didn't see SA forum!)
Arg... for once I'm flying a B fare from FRA to SFO on LH booked in B -- last minute booking to get out of London before the hurricane. 20k miles to upgrade, great! But, AC's star alliance award upgrade tool is telling me "General Technical Failure", and calling them yielded the same result. They said it's been down for 4 days.
Unfortunately the flight is tomorrow (morning), so no time to wait for it to be fixed. Does anyone have any other ideas on how to make this upgrade happen? AC says they can't contact LH directly; would calling LH myself potentially yield success?

No such thing as a *A system. It's just a marketing alliance. But, whether there is or not, bottom line is that only Aeroplan can do this for you.

As mentioned this has been cross-posted in Air Canada and so cannot be posted here also. The notes about this being an AC problem also lead me to believe it is best answered in AC.
