It would be nice to score a suites or F award ticket on SQ for say SFO/SIN on one of their B777ER or A380s.

I also hate how they try to block lounge use. Flew SIN/HKG-HKG/SFO in UA F and was handed an invitation to use the SATS lounge in SIN. Not my first rodeo, so cruised over to the SQ F lounge where the SQ dragons begrudgingly permitted our entry -- like they were doing us some kind of favor. What BS!
EXACTLY. We fly 100,000+/year on at least one airline and then they act like they are doing us a favor when they "allow" us in their lounges? PLEASE. Like you said, this is not my first rodeo.!!!

I think SQ is really not so part of *A anyway, most of their fares are not eligible for mileage accruals and redeeming award tickets on SQ is PITA - even from their very own KF programme.

Even CX has changed their low Y tickets to become eligible for miles (although it's 25%).

I think EVA might be happy about the alliance because if CX is part of *A they can code share their HKG-TPE flights, so they can put more resources into new destinations.

I'd love to see CX flies to Scandinavia, or even South American from HKG. The last flight ex-HKG to CPH was operated by SAS back in 1997.

If you think SQ is bad, you should look at NZ.

OZ has good feed from/to ICN and with EVA now onboard there is no need to go out of your way on tracking through Asia. Not saying the quality on SQ isn't there it is - but is it always worth it to trek all the way to SIN? The ME carriers have shown it isn't for EU-ANZ flights now.

As someone who does go intra-asia a lot (60% of my travel) I would see CX as more centrally located and more viable than SQ. Just my 2 cents; but I know many others who feel the same.
I don't fly to Malaysia as often as you do but I have flown a bunf to other SE Asian destinations (KUL, CKG, SGN, HAN) and I agree that BKK or HKG is a much better connection point than SIN.

Personally, I do not require stellar hard/soft products. A comfortable and fairly roomy seat with above average catering will do nicely.

Doesn't that description apply to many (most?) of the threads on FT?

There is no way CX can leave OW. History and fortunes too closely tied together.

Yep just like TAM is leaving Star after s short stint, so anything can happen. OW can always get one of the new Chinese Airlines.

If SQ can get away with their current rules towards *A, who's to say CX won't do the same? CX is incredibly bad for redemption for their own MP members compared to SQ for its own FFP.

it would be interesting if you can provide support to your claim, because for mine and many others the opposite is consistently true. But looking again on this hilarious thread can't fail to notice that many will dump SQ for CX in *. This does speak volumes about the disappointment many feel for a member that has never really wanted to play fair with others.

I am not sure what rules you are referring to that SQ is getting away with?

I actually think NZ is worse than SQ in regard to releasing * award seats. At least SQ Y and non super premium J/F is available. You don't even get much in Y for NZ these days.

I was under the impression that *A partner FFP members were unhappy with SQ's award availability and how they don't offer much in terms of redemption for their current long haul J and F offerings.

Myself and many others (based on anecdotal conversations) have had a lot of trouble redeeming long haul red-eyes out of HKG in the premium cabins on CX.

Bearing in mind I am a member of SQ's FFP - Since SQ opened up saver redemption awards for its current generation of long haul products I've had no trouble with finding availability for redemption. For the last few years I've always considered SQ rather generous towards its own customers when it comes to finding redemption availability for KF/PPS Club members. This coupled with the 15% online booking discount makes redeeming flights slightly more attractive than on *A members as the discount doesn't apply to KF/PPS Club members trying to book on partner carriers. The major annoyance comes from the taxes and surcharges which can total S$700 for J class R/T to LAX/SFO from SIN.

What I'm trying to say is that if SQ can be stingy with releasing award seats to *A partner airlines who's to say that if CX replaced SQ they won't be just as stingy? Surely CX could play just as unfair a game as SQ in *A.
