The downgraded Y meal is just a snack box with a muffin, fruit cup, and hong Kong style Vita Lemon tea drink box, it is quite pathetic in my opinion, it looks like they are going the N.America way, and probably going BOB very soon.

Pathetic indeed seeing that HKG-NRT is a 4 hour flight. Heck most EU carriers serve a full meal on flights of similar length.

I think I'm arguing semantics at this point so I won't bother. Regardless of how exactly it's defined, should Cathay come over to Star, Dragonair would, in all likelihood, join as well.

would you kindly quote the thread or the location where you've seen the photos? For a three hour flight they definitely do not serve mainland-style mealboxes.

There may be no correlation in terms of region, but maybe Qatar coming into OW is pissing CX off and thats why they want to leave??

What's your thought process for this theory?

Not confronting you, just genuinely curious.

If you can't read chinese traditional, just go to post #9 and #26 for actual snack box pics
http://www.discuss.com.hk/viewthread...extra=page%3D1

There are other pics of that CX Y snack box meal as well, but due to copyright issue, you have to go to hkadb on fb to look for it yourself.

It also mentioned no other beverages are served, either box drink Vita Lemon tea or water. Not all HKG-NRT flights serve that snack box, flight on meal times still have hot meal, snack box also being served on some flights for e.g. HKG-KIX/SIN/SGN/BKK

I'm curious as well. What happened between Qatar and Cathay? I'd love to see CX in Star Alliance even if that means losing SQ.

I don't know if anything happened in particular, but QR is now the only aligned bling airline, and bling airlines are known for "stealing" passengers between Europe and Asia Pacific quite heavily.

Losing SQ? They are worthless to the Alliance, not respecting any rules, not giving any F or C awards to partners,... I would immidiatelly exchange SQ for CX!!

My thoughts were that what other quality airline does OW have besides CX, now QR is just as good or maybe better in many aspects. Also maybe CX is not getting the best quality services for its customers, like say when the get off in LA and have to connect to miserable AA crews and planes, come on, would you not want your customers to have a seamless travel experience. SO now back to QR, maybe its just too much competition for CX?

Sorry guys, I don't think my post ,made much sense. The point is I will be glad to welcome CX into Star as they have daily flights into YYZ, the only thing I despise, is their connections to S.America, with that Lousy AA partner.

The bigger problem for most of is SIN as a hub is well out of reach except for EU-ANZ or immediate ASEAN connections.

I go to Malaysia 10 times a year and with the exception of one NRT-SIN flight it's been easier for to connect via HK or Taipei than doing a two stop connection with SQ (NRT or ICN if SFO flight then connect in SIN again).

OZ has good feed from/to ICN and with EVA now onboard there is no need to go out of your way on tracking through Asia. Not saying the quality on SQ isn't there it is - but is it always worth it to trek all the way to SIN? The ME carriers have shown it isn't for EU-ANZ flights now.

As someone who does go intra-asia a lot (60% of my travel) I would see CX as more centrally located and more viable than SQ. Just my 2 cents; but I know many others who feel the same.
