Enough Connection Time?
I'm thinking about booking the following flights:
Singapore Airlines Flight 282 from Auckland to Singapore arriving at 6:35 A.M., connecting with ANA Flight 112 from Singapore to Narita departing at 8:30 A.M., with a 1 hour 55 minute connection time in Singapore
ANA Flight 112 from Singapore to Narita arriving at 4:20 P.M., connecting with United Flight 78 from Narita to Newark departing at 5:45 P.M., with a 1 hour 25 minute connection time at Narita
Do you know if these flights generally arrive on-time and if the gates are close together? Do you think it is safe to book these flights given the short connection times?
Thanks.

If on one ticket I would do it, otherwise this is a bit too tight for my liking. Can still work of course.

I have no experience at Narita, but 1h55 at SIN is more than sufficient for any connection.
I assume you are on separate tickets (otherwise I don't really see the point of the question). But since both airlines (SQ/NH) are *A partners, they should be able to send your luggage through and you will not have to go through immigration to pick it up and re-check.

I recently did the SIN-NRT-EWR you are proposing on NH/UA and had enough time to connect, with probably 30 minutes to spare before boarding began on UA. The gates are relatively close together and you just have to clear security at NRT, which has a special area for connecting passengers.
I would expect that almost 2 hours is more than enough at SIN, but don't have personal experience.
Good luck with all the traveling...I don't envy you the jetlag! It took me a week to get over mine.

Thank you to everyone for your replies.
Koby, I would be travelling on two tickets, the first being AKL-NRT on Singapore to Narita booked using United Mileage Plus miles, and the second being NRT-EWR on United which I purchase as a part of a transpacific ticket. Do you think I would be able to check my luggage straight from Auckland to Newark given that it'll be on three carriers, although all Star Alliance carriers?
Simd, I appreciate your first-hand experience. Although I know actual flight arrivals and departures can vary from day to day, it's always nice to know that someone else has done it and that it worked.
Thanks again.

One important point to keep in mind - if you check your baggage, and your first flight is delayed, you may be able to make your connection but your bags won't, it happened to me once with LH in FRA.
They told me that in general, for any connections less then 1 hour (LH allows even 45 min connection!), bags quite often don't make it and they will eventually courier bags to you in your destination (after filling some documents).
Now, just to clarify, this information was coming from LH agent responsible for delayed luggage applications, officially they probably won't confirm it.
I would not worry too much in your case, you should be OK.
However, if you can survive with carry-on, you will not have this issue.

I don't really see how this is relevant for the OP...

Another important point - while officially airline may tell you that 50 min connection time is OK, inofficially you can get different "more practical" info.
ANA connecting with UA, an NRT with 1:25 connecting time - two different airlines are involved - in case of any delays could be a problem.
I also commented that in this specific case it will be probably OK.

My statement is rather generic - when you have connecting flights, and first flight arrives late, bags may move not as fast as PAX.
