About to pull trigger on this RTW. Any last tips?

Thanks to some good advice from members of this forum, I altered my RTW slightly and this is what i have come up with and will be booking in the next week or so.

I will be doing it in C so all very exciting

AKL-lax-LAS-sfo-JFK-zrh-FCO-zrh-LHR-zrh-DXB-bkk-MEL-AKL

A few points i noted:

* I get to try the NZ biz which gets great reviews. Just on that, which seats are best for couples?
Am I best going to the nose of the 747 as I see seats a close together at the front but dont have overhead luggage space.

* Get to try the new LX biz class on two routes JFK-ZRH and ZRH - DXB

* Routing back from DXB to MEL kind of restricted me to BKK because of the miles and I am not keen on paying surcharges to SQ. Anyway i get to fly on a TG A340 which would be nice.

I was tempted to look at this RTW in F but it misses too many legs to justify the extra cost IMO. AKL-LAX and BKK-MEL would both be J. Two of the biggest legs.

I note I still have 1263 miles and 3 stops to play with but as its a honeymoon and not a RTW for the sake of, I cant really fit too many more stops in.
Maybe a small hop intra Europe would be doable but not sure where from LHR?

Also looked at routing back from BKK to SIN and then maybe splurge on an A380 ( surcharge I know but yet to fly on one) but the 29k miles kills me just.

So any last thoughts would be much appreciated.

You can take a side trip from DXB to MCT on LX (or CAI on SQ but then you'd need to rearrange other flights to keep under 29k miles).

Between LHR and ZRH you could do something on SK - CPH or ARN are both lovely, especially if you're travelling later in the year when it's warmer there. I'd recommend some more "ambitious places" to go between LHR and ZRH such as MOW, WAW etc. I like them a lot but it's not for everyone.

I am a bit confused with your statement above.

Your proposed routing:

AKL-lax-LAS-sfo-JFK-zrh-FCO-zrh-LHR-zrh-DXB-bkk-MEL-AKL

according to Great Circle Map takes about 27,720 miles.

If you do:

AKL-lax-LAS-sfo-JFK-zrh-FCO-zrh-LHR-zrh-DXB-bkk-SIN-MEL-AKL

in order to catch A380 for SIN-MEL, you still have around 27,794 miles.

Hence, my question is you said the 29K kills you just. You still have about 1000 miles to use up...

Ok. I have noticed that the miles calculator seems to jump around a bit so I might of miscalculated that one. Will have to revisit. Thanks.

I realize it may be too late to change it, but you may find reversing the direction and flying continually westward to be easier on your body, and allow your circadian rhythms to adjust more quickly. I flew SFO-LAX-AKL-SYD-SIN-BKK-JNB-CPT-GIG-ATL-SFO when I did my RTW and going westward was a real help for me.

You are right, I had thought of that. The only problem is that i am getting married in Vegas and the rest is the honeymoon, hence the need to head east.

We are giving ourselves time in most stops to adjust so hopefully wont be too taxing...

What a great way to honeymoon! Congrats on the nuptials, and don't be shy about mentioning that in Vegas, especially at the hotel check-in and restaurants.

Yes. Oman is actually much nicer than Dubai -- not as glitzy, far more genuine. (See them both and compare for yourself. Don't miss the fish market in Muscat.) And you don't even have to make it a side trip: I think you can route DXB-MCT-BKK

Yes. Good one.

AKL-lax-LAS-sfo-JFK-zrh-FCO-zrh-LHR-cph-WAW-zrh-DXB-MCT-bkk-MEL-AKL

comes to 28918 on the GCM.

cheers,

Henry

Cheers Henry. Yes I am liking the suggestion of MCT. It works quite well as it connects through.
What are your thoughts on WAW? had not considered it...

In many ways, Warsaw nowadays is your basic Eastern European former-communist-now-EU capital; not even especially beautiful like Prague, nor particularly cheap like Budapest. However, what makes it special is its history. As you may know, something like 91% of all buildings in Warsaw were destroyed in the second world war. Afterwards, using whatever old maps, plans and photographs they could find, along with the recollections of the people, they re-built part of the Old City exactly as it had been before. It is a stirring testimonial to the determination of a people not to be obliterated. Also, the troops standing honour guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier are the proudest, best-disciplined of their kind I have ever seen in the world; they put the Beefeaters to shame.

cheers,

Henry

Adding WAW, MCT, and SIN, you are still under 29000 miles, or 28,991 to be precise.
