Actually, there are only 20 passengers onboard. Only for Southwest Airlines and FAA, as well.

Mostly has to do with jet stream winds. Today the jet stream happens to flow direct from Hawaii to Texas at between 100 to 160 mph. Express ride all the way! At least the flight from OAK to HNL was away from this influence, otherwise it would have taken even longer.

According to FlightAware it seems to be skipping a lot of that. I'm thinking low load has more to do with being able to do a direct HNL-DAL than anything else.

Actually, they are only 20 passengers for Southwest Airlines employees and FAA, as well. Not a passengers schedule.

Please read my previously post. Thank you.

20 passengers on a plane that can fit 175 + crew (regardless of who those passengers are) is by definition low load.

Another 155 passengers would add 25% to the weight of the plane. Do you think 25% weight reduction makes it able to get to DAL when it couldn't otherwise?

Yes. Especially if the extra weight allows you to load more fuel.

Additionally, DAL is only 400-500mi or so farther since Boeing's specs for range are based on 162 passengers, so they might not even have needed to go all the way down to 20 passengers. Though any additional buffer in case of diversions, etc. is welcome.

Or that dispatch filed the route to remain in US FAA airspace, thus avoiding extra fee payment to SENEAM in México.

Paging OPNLguy.

Peanuts are out now, but maybe they could do macadamias?
