Looks like Virgin America is trying to compete intra Texas directly with Southwest for $39
http://aviationblog.dallasnews.com/2...in-april.html/

Wasn't sure if I should make a separate thread but looks like it fits well here

just got this:
DALLAS--MARCH 03, 2015-- Virgin America just launched a two-day sale on spring flights from Dallas. This is the first time this year we've seen the airline discount fares into June.

Sale fares are available most Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, March 24 - June 10. One-way nonstop fares from Dallas, including tax, are:
•Austin ... $39 (beginning April 28)
•Washington, D.C. (Reagan) ... $59
•New York (LaGuardia) ... $99
•San Francisco ... $103

The sale ends at 11:59 p.m. CT Wednesday.

. . . Why? Seems like the most unprofitable route ever. Seems to me that people that love/live in SFO wouldn't be caught dead in Branson, and vice versa.

No, I think that Virgin is doing this to drive pax into Love Field.

Branson attracts an older demographic than their normal SFO and NYC routes. I think they will work hard to pull in folks in Dallas that would have never flown VA.

I don't know if it is Virgin America or Southwest matching the other - since neither has advertised it - but the $39 fare between SFO and LAS that is currently available until the end of schedule is just incredible.

Virgin America is 3 hours into an 8-hour sale with really good fares that Southwest appears to be matching, including the Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving!

JetBlue 2-day sale covering November-early February. I noticed that most Super Bowl travel dates to and from Oakland are priced normally, not stratospherically as Southwest is still doing.
