Beaches in Florida that allow alcohol

I loved to vacation in Mexico with being able to sit on the beach and drink beer. It is not safe now to go there. Does anyone knows where in Florida that will allow alcohol on the beach?

There are many beaches in Florida where glass containers are banned. If you put alcohol into a coffee cup, there hasn't been a problem for us with the exception of Clearwater Beach.

In most cases, there isn't a problem if it isn't in glass and your group isn't "making a scene." Since in some situations you do have minors around, I would recommend putting into another cup...coffee or even one of those red plastic ones. Most of the time, as long as you aren't causing a 'drunk scene,' no one cares.

I don't want to do the illegal thing of having alcohol in a coffee cup and get caught. I will have my kids with my playing on the sand and I want to enjoy a can or two of beers (no bottles for me) on the beach and want to know that it is perfectly legal to do so.

As a native Floridian, I have never heard of a public beach in the state that prohibits alcohol. As long as you don't have glass on the beach, you should be fine. Just read the posted signs at the logical "entrance" to the beach (e.g., parking lot or wooden walkway over the dunes) to be sure. If EtOH is prohibited at that beach, it will certainly be mentioned on those signs.

According to this site, Clearwater doesn't allow alcohol on the beach.

This says that Cocoa beach is "one of the few that does", but glass of course is prohibited.

I found an Orlando Sentinel article that says Volusia County (Daytona, New Smyrna) prohibits alcohol on all beaches.

I don't know about others offhand, but if you google around, you should be able to determine the rules at particular beaches that are nearby.

Fair enough, but I think that you should feel perfectly comfortable putting your beverage of choice in your own non-glass container and enjoying it on the beach. As others have said, if you're not making a scene or nuisance, I can't imagine anyone will give you a hard time (with the exception of Clearwater Beach, perhaps).

Alcohol is banned at many Florida beaches but enforcement varies.

Alcohol is banned on Miami Beach for example, but this rule is completely ignored by just about everyone. You would have to be causing some serious commotion to get ticketed for drinking on South Beach!

In Brevard County, alcohol is banned on the beach in the city of Indialantic and the city of Satellite Beach. It's permitted along all other beaches. Glass containers are banned, as are kegs within Cocoa Beach city limits.

I've lived in Fort Myers for three years and have been to many beaches in southwest Florida. Unfortunately, alcohol is banned on most beaches. Having said that, I frequently drink anyway. The key is to be discreet and behave. I have only had one beach patrol officer say anything to me and I was just told to put it away. 99% of the time they ride around on four wheelers. Needless to say, you should never take glass to a beach. Besides being unsafe, it's just asking for trouble.

It's legal on the beaches of Panama City Beach except during the month of March. The rule was changed to rein in an out of control Spring Break situation.

Is this seriously true? So when I go to Pompano Beach with my wife and kids I can just stash a couple of beer cans into the cooler to enjoy while lying on the sand? Great news! ^

Escambia County ordinances for Pensacola Beach...

With the exception of the alcohol-free zone on Pensacola Beach established pursuant to section 6-3 of the Escambia County Code of Ordinances, nothing in this section shall be construed to prohibit any person from legally possessing, consuming or selling an alcoholic beverage on sandy beach areas upland of the Gulf of Mexico, Santa Rosa Sound, or other navigable waterways.
The "alcohol free zone" is about 1.5 acres of beach adjacent to the pier.

Gulf Islands National Seashore (Fort Pickens, etc.) Rules and Regulations

Drink responsibly and follow all state laws on alcohol consumption.
