Alternatively, we could simply wait 4 more days to find out if this is indeed correct

I really question MUFFP's source, in another thread, he/she said MU would be joining "this week" in mid-January 2010 (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/skyte...l-join-st.html).

Besides, in China Daily newspaper, the CEO said MU would join OW (http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/bizchin...nt_9694742.htm).

I wouldn't read into what that article said. The analyst they were quoting didn't seem to know that much about OW.

"But considering its bitter rivalry with Air China, China Eastern is less likely to join Star Alliance," said Gao Shiliang, an analyst from Central China Securities.

"Oneworld will be China Eastern's final choice, although it is smaller in size than the other two. But it also has stellar members like American Airlines, British Airways, Canadian Airlines and Cathay Pacific," Gao noted.

Hoping that this does not end up like the JAL fiasco.

i'm starting to see this barrage of "news" about MU same way as the brouhaha that raged in the past months regarding the supposed switch of JL to ST. At the end it was nothing more that paid propaganda trying to force a conclusion that a wobbly offer could not guarantee. As ToyotaBoy95 I also do not understand the purpose of unsubstantiated postings that seems only to indicate a personal desire of the poster to see MU in ST. The article in itself, as vague as required by a chinese official newspaper indicates clearly that the likely choice of MU will be indeed OW, and sums succintly the main reasons why * or ST will not be choosen.

Looks like it's real this time. I have 4 facts to prove that this is on its way.

1. MU has moved FM from PEK T3 to T2 to be under one roof. FM is the only *A carrier now not in T3. FM is required (by *A?) to retain its ticketing and transit desk at T3 for a year.

2. MU will start new route to Amsterdam, KLM hub.

3. MU will increase frequency to Paris, Air France hub.

4. Executives from UA and AC recently visited Shanghai seeking further cooperation with CA in Shanghai hinting CA will become the only choice out of PVG.

Just read from the Dow Jones Newswires, sources say MU may sign agreement with Skyteam on Friday April 16. MU has also signed a merger agreement with Shanghai Airlines (FM). FM will leave the Star Alliance soon.

Not so fast...

SHANGHAI — China Eastern Airlines said Tuesday it is in talks with all the three global airline alliances after a French newspaper reported that the carrier is set to join the SkyTeam Alliance.

MH are trying to forge code-share with a number of SkyTeam airlines, and do have a handfull, AZ, CZ, KL & KE, but it looks like they have more code-shares with *A airlines than ST. Next thing you know, MH will be trying to co-operate with VN, which I think will likely happen.

But prior to joining, the number of code-shares with current members don't really show that they are likely to join that alliance, VN for example only code-shared with KE & CZ, and then they annouced joining then they annouced and soon start code-sharing after joining with AF & DL.
