Lots of people just assume Tupelov aircraft are old and decaying...plenty of them are younger (built in the late 80s) than the B737s flown by plenty of US airlines.

In any case, my question is even simpler: what do you care if SkyTeam adds airlines you do not like? You simply choose not to fly on them. As has been demonstrated many times on FT, different people have different preferences, right? Even within the USA, you can find "die-hard" DL fans who never fly CO or NW and v.v. What's the fuss?! If SkyTeam can add more options for travellers then so be it - nobody's forcing you to fly them.
I haven't had the FlyLAL experience yet, but several of my staff have, and Air Baltic gets much better reviews.

I have a business trip to Vilnius next month, and I will be on Air Baltic, not FlyLAL.

I am with you on this, Nomad... the more airports in the world than one can reach via Skyteam carriers, the better. Every time a new carrier is added, there is always the litany of posts about how ST needs a better presence in SE Asia, the Middle East and so forth. Adding these smaller carriers is not at the exclusion of adding bigger, more valuable carriers.

Fortunately, nobody has locked up any of the Albanian carriers that I am aware of. I think MIAT Mongolian Airlines is also available. Keeping my fingers crossed.
I think I would rather fly that cargo plane that Indiana Jones rafted out of in Temple of Doom, or maybe the Nepal carrier that Eddie Murphy enjoyed in The Golden Child (or was that MIAT?).

I don't see what that has to do with flyLAL joining SkyTeam. Like I said in my previous posting, people have different preferences - just look at your own signature! Just because someone prefers NW to DL or CO surely does not mean that the latter two should not be in the alliance

I think these new partners will mostly be used by DL marketing touting the number of partners in ST. While I always welcome greater access and new mileage partners, these new airline partners do not make up for the lost of other airlines that have left the past few years: El Al, Virgin Atlantic, Malaysia, Singapore. No one can deny that DL has lost some well-known mileage earning partner these past few year.

At one time it was announced that Tarom was going to be a junior partner of SkyTeam, but I haven't seen any more about that. With DL flying into OTP, that might make for some useful connections.

There's also CSA from the Czech Republic if they haven't been mentioned. Have had good experiences with them.

I'm not familiar with this flyLOL airline though.

flyLAL soon will be leader in The Baltic!

As I sow in a lot of comments seems that not everybody knows about FlyLAL Company. I often fly with flyLAL and dont have bad words for this company.

One time when I flied from Amsterdam to Vilnius on that plain were very pretties service girls in the world.

So first try flyLAL airlines and then say your opinion, I guess the stuff will be the same

Good look to everybody!

Well said. In terms of aviation industry growth the arc from Africa to North Asia is probably going to show much more growth than North America or Western Europe.

+1!
Many bussines routes within the former soviet union have better yields in both cabins that most domestic US markets! And even better, these markets are getting stronger every year. Many of the "flag markets" ex St. Petersburg or Moscow have stronger yields the LON-US.

Several US based airlines still showcasing DC9's built in the Johnson era which might double that age of several Tupolews still in use there...
