saw one white BMW X7 in one of the Diamond spaces today, they didn’t have one four days ago when I was picking up

Yes, I have, and I am glad I have. Tried it because of the rates. I rent the top categories for an extended time (3 to 4 weeks), and the savings over the LAX location are huge, even if you deduct the return limo fare to La Cienega. At the time I fly in from Europe, the commute to La Cienega is about 30-35 minutes. When I used to rent from Hertz, it always took longer to get the location on the Hertz shuttle.
Last year, I had booked XFAZ (GLS, Escalade, XC90) and got a GLS, with outdated plates. AFter a week in Palm SPrings, the aircon started to stink and the GPS was stupid. SO I returned it and all they could get me was a XC90, which I hated. Felt like a golf buggy, simply not the same category. This year, I rented again a XFAZ. IN the meantime, they had created another category for XC90. Got a GLS again. Staff is nice. But while I was waiting, as I had turned up early, I witnessed blatant upsells for ridiculously high prices. I had denied myself the 'regular' upsells for any insurance. I already have a booking for next summer. Hoping for a X7 or a new GLS. |
All,
In your experience, what models are available in the Premium Convertible category at LAX? The website shows a 4-series and a c-class convertibles. Do these models tend to be high spec / low spec etc... The prices for a week in November compare favourably to base Mustang / Camaro convertibles from another vendor so i'm trying to figure out which to go for... Thanks in advance Ferg |
They've been phasing out the 4 Series. FYI all the German cars at Sixt LAX are stripped down. No backup cameras etc. unless you get quite lucky. For the couple K they save stripping them down it is very apparent to anyone renting that they are not driving what they otherwise would - you can very much feel you are driving a bare bones model.

so I'm looking to use SIXT for the first time, I'm typically a National customer however seeing that I need an 8 person vehicle National is charging almost 1000 for one while SIXT is half the price. Anyway I would like to know if their Full Size SUV(GFAR) have 8 seats? Also does SIXT really require you to bring two types of credit cards?

Thanks for this quick response - very helpful. It kind of looks like i won't be getting a premium option in any case so I might as well stick to the Ford/Chevy option and save a few bucks. |
XCAR - Sixt vs Enterprise - LAX
For Xmas week (coming in Saturday afternoon), I can get a "Full size Elite" "Q50 or similar" at Enterprise or an XCAR ("Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Volvo S90, Cadillac XTS") at Sixt. Any ideas on what I'm likely to actually get at Enterprise? At Sixt? Any reason other than car choice to pick one over the other - price is roughly the same? Thanks

Enterprise rentals can be credited to National's reward program. Rent a certain number of times, depending on your status, get a free day, which can be used for an expensive one-way. Sixt to the best of my knowledge does not have something similar.

Without any special status you can expect an E300 (when I last visited they had quite a lot of them); with higher status (Platinum or Diamond) you usually get an upgrade

Hello,
I booked LFAR (infamous GLC or similar) from LAX in January for 8 days. My first rental with a status. I have SIXT Platinum status via AMEX Platinum. Is it likely that I will get an upgrade (should be XFAR then?). How are your experiences? How to address the clerks? First ask for a tip jar and then for an upgrade ;)? Happy for any input! |
Rented an XFAZ two weeks ago from LAX. Happy with the service and had no issues picking up or dropping off. I got a fully loaded high mileage Escalade ESV which was fun to try out but probably will try to avoid it in the future due to its large size. I saw one black X7 on return but otherwise mostly Escalades.
I did find a unicorn in the fleet which I talked to the staff about. A brand new Volvo V90 Cross Country with every option available. Apparently the only one in the whole fleet. |
Xmas week report.
As a newly minted Plat, my only choice was my reserved car and only available was s90. No free upgrade but paid 10/day for Discovery Sport. Decent vehicle with 32k but pretty beat. Tried to charge me for scratches on return and did not believe my oral protests that they were preexisting. But after I showed them video they backed down (at least I haven’t seen additional charges yet)

Pick up time
Hey guys, this is more a general question, I'm under the impression that the courtesy time for pickup is now 30 mins instead of 60? I imagine that adding the flight number makes no difference...
I'm really disappointed they've decided to make this change... |
