Thanks! I just found a post in another forum - in that case it had the T6 engine, which has AWD as a standard
Trim levels have varied, ones I got harman kardon which was awesome! But in general they’re all really nice with electric seats (not all have been ventilated) , leather interior |
Hi, I have another question to the community:
as we are planning a short trip to Death Valley and Mojave it would be great to have a 4WD vehicle with some offroad capability. Does anyone know what Sixt in LAX has in stock towards this requirement? I saw Jeep Wrangler and Toyota Tacoma - are these 4WD or 2WD? Any other pick-ups seen in the fleet? Thanks a lot! Sascha |
Off roading is against the rental agreement in most cases.

Completed my 4-day rental over President's Day weekend.
Bus arrived at the airport within 3 minutes of us reaching the pick-up area. We saw one Hertz bus first, and then the Sixt bus right behind it. Same slow pickup process as last year. 10 minutes in line, then 10 minutes with an agent - must of which was neither of us doing anything but the agent looking at her Instagram feed while we waited for someone else to "assign me a car". Agent tried to talk me into taking a downgrade to a Jeep Wrangler. I was booked in the small luxury SUV class and the agent was annoyed when I didn't want a Jeep because the "Jeep is bigger." I said I didn't stand in line for a Jeep when I paid for something better. Agent did not attempt any kind of upsell to better cars. Eventually I was assigned a Volvo XC60. Of course, then I had to wait another 10 minutes to actually get the Volvo. The car was spotless - I looked for any possible scratch, dent, ding, or blemish and could find nothing. Ended up being a very nice car for four days, probably better for 4 people than the Mercedes in that class would have been. (The Volvo looked roomier.) Drove to Palm Springs and up in the mountains around there...had plenty of punch going up hills. If I ever book this class again, I'll ask for the XC60 again. Brought it back with no scratches and a full tank of gas. Surprisingly had no hassle at return. No damage or fuel scams were attempted. We boarded a waiting bus, waited less than 60 seconds for one other customer and the driver, and were on our way back to the airport. Got a $0 invoice via email the next day. In short, about the best I could have hoped for. I paid 30 minutes to get a 4-day rental of a nice car for about $75-100 less than a standard car at Hertz or National would have cost. As much as I hate the inefficient process, I will probably keep doing it once a year for this purpose. |
No hardcore off-road driving planned - just the off gravel road where a 4wd comes handy
Does anyone know if the GLCs are 4wd? |
Hello, I'm interested in renting the category xfar, in my advertising appears the Range Rover Velar and the Volvo XC90, some had the Range Velar in that category or is always the Volvo?.
Of course I would prefer the Velar |
Thinking of booking with SIXT for our upcoming LA trip, anyone had any recent experience of the LFAR (GLC or similar)?
are they a terrible company? |
Hi,
current LAX fleet as of last Wednesday in that category was XC90 T6 and GLS450, no Velars Actually, I had the Velar as as Sixt rental in Germany a couple of weeks ago - looks nice, but the whole electronics (in particular the navigational system) takes some getting used to. In addition my wife did not like the seats at all (strong side support, too narrow at the hips). XC90 is not as sporty a drive, but a good drive for longer distances GLS would defnitely be my preference. The group should also have X5 and GLE, hopefully the show up in the fleet again pretty soon (new GLE is a very niche piece of German car engineering) |

are they a terrible company? Obviously I might be a little biased due to my lifetime Diamond status, but renting experience as well as car fleet is far nicer than any other competitors. Have read some comments about how they treat customers, but have never experienced this myself, also prior to obtaining my status. |
that's the thing, reviews are either really positive or terrible!.. what do you think the chances of receiving the class of car reserved?
thanks for your response. |

thanks for your response. Try to google "Sixt LAX", then look at the pictures - usually some customers post up-to-date photos of the parking garage (which is actually an old factory building), gives you a good idea of the fleet |

are they a terrible company? Sixt is a company with a terrible lack of process, but the fleet itself is quite good. It's a trade-off (for me, anyway). Wait in a queue, up to about 30 minutes, and get a very nice car for Hertz's price for a not-so-nice car. The longer your rental and the more expensive the category you are renting, the more likely this is to be worth it for you. Obviously if you do this enough to get elite status, then you get the best of both worlds. At LAX, the Diamond member still has to speak to a human to rent a car, but goes to the front of the queue. (And their queue was empty when I was there.)

does anyone have any recent experience with XFAZ category at LAX or general LA locations? Is it always Escalade or GLS? Is there any other options being offered? Range Rover for example? Any rumours what cars might join XFAZ fleet in the near future?

In New York, XFAZ is Escalade only (which was IMHO not a good ride unless you want the ample space for 7 passengers) |
