Sixt at LAX [merged experience reports]
Anyone has a clue if and when SIXT may pplan to be available at LAX ?
|
Hi UStravelfan,
I have contacted my colleagues in the USA to ask if there are any plans to open a branch in the Los Angeles Airport area and I will let you know as soon as I have a reply from them. In the meantime, if you require anything further, please feel free to contact me directly. Many thanks, Gary Caudwell.

Did you get an answer from you're colleagues?
|
Apparently not. I was interested as well

Hi roadwarrior365,
Sorry for the delay in my response. We do not currently have plans to open a branch at Los Angeles Airport, however this is not indefinite and may change at some point in the future. Best regards, Gary Caudwell.

Is sixt coming to lax soon ???
Can you clarify the status of the lax station? The website makes it appear that you have an open location. Is this still a referral to an unaffiliated rental agency?

Hi Mrp Alert,
The location on the screenshot you provided is a branch off-airport with a shuttle service from the terminal to the office to collect the vehicle. We currently have no plans to open a location on the airport site itself. However, this is not final, and may change depending on demand and a suitable site being available. Best regards, Gary Caudwell.

Sixt LAX
I just made a reservation for SIXT LAX in July. Has anyone had any experience with this location? Looks like it's at a Hotel near the airport? Thanks.

In the past 24 hours, I have received two email adverts from Sixt about the new LAX airport location.

I just checked the rates at LAX. I'm traveling July 18-22 and was hoping I might be able to get a better deal on a Merc CLA250 than the Audi A4 I'm getting with Silvercar. Not even a chance. $250/day.
Also, to those confusing "in-airport" with "off-airport location". There are NO in-airport rentals at LAX at all - all rental companies are off-airport. |
Just rented this past weekend from LAX as a Platinum.
the office is in the front corner of the Renaissance hotel, you have to hunt down for it a bit. They were offering cash upgrades to a BMW 428 convt for $15 a day, and was able to get it for free as a Platinum (or since I was booked into a premium category for a Cadillac ATS). Staff was helpful and pleasant. For a BMW AI at $120 or so for a weekend, where Hertz was $100 for a standard fullsize, I'm excited that Sixt is finally at LAX. Be aware though that they use the hotel shuttle to get to the terminal (15-25 min wait). Only downside to renting here vs Hertz who has their constant shuttles. |
Looking to rent a car at LAX, but with the off airport location, how does that work with the terms and conditions saying that if you rent at an airport you're allowed to drive to other states than just the neighbouring ones?

Hi,
The cars at LAX will be American vehicles. If you want to PM your reservation number to me I'd be happy to put a note on your booking advising the guys of your vehicle request? Many thanks, Louise.

I have a car rental i booked for LAX 02/06/2015, now I am concerned with not being at LAX.... we are in for a quick long weekend for Disneyland and do not want to waste more time than we have to. Prices were about the same and wasn't able to get the sporty car we hoped... thinking we should change to a company at the airport? thoughts?

Hi,
I have a three weeks trip to LAX ahead in September. In the past I rented Prestige Collection vehicles from Hertz (Mercedes, Jaguar,...) Has anyone seen what kind of luxury vehicles Sixt LAX Features? The website shows german cars?! Any chance of really getting an BMW X5? Or is this just a mirage? Thanks for your help Frank |
See post #15 in this thread, they only have US cars.
|
FFAR?
Tried SIXT in Florida twice and was very happy with service and cars and so on, so I too was happy to see that they have a location near LAX.
Booked a FFAR in late november for one week. There will be atleast 6 persons but I didnt want a minivan. Does someone have a good guess at what I will get?? The suburban would be fine, as the example stated (swedish sixt) /Nick |

Very weird experience at LAX some days ago. You make your way to the station and then no car is ready to be rented out. After getting a manual contract you finally make your way to the parking deck (full of sixt cars of all types) and get a stupid lecture from the 'fleet manager'.
Still no invoice or charge to my card a week after returning the car. This is what I wrote to sixt today: Dear Sixt, I had a bizarre rental at your LAX station. First of all the setup of Sixt LAX is not of what I'm used to with your premium company: its well hidden in the hotel, with no signage whatsoever. If I hadn't researched my way I would have not know you even existed there. On arrival my car was not prepared in advance and the agent had to haggle with the 'fleet manager' over her personal phone to even get a car to rent out. Then even though she had access to the system she proceeded to issue a manual hand written contract. This process took about 15 minutes. You then have to make your way thru the hotel and pick up the car on the roof of the hotel parking lot. During all this time there were two agents chilling/chatting in the rental office and about 5 employees on the parking deck. When I got there I was pointed towards the car. When I asked the 'fleet manager' what was going on and why the contract was manual and why everything took so long, I got lectured that the car assigned to me was already an upgrade because it was a 'premium vehicle' (we are talking about a Toyota Scion XB, rated ICAR in your system). Anyway, three days later I returned the car and was told I would receive an invoice a few days later. Its been a week and I have neither been charged nor received an invoice. The reservation has dropped off my online account and if I try to look up the invoice online I get an error message. I would be grateful if you could update me on the final invoice for this rental. I understand Sixt just started in LAX, but based on the experience I had, I think I will stick to the existing large major rental firms in LAX for now where I can just sit in the prepared rental and drive away if I have a frequent renter profile on file. Regards Oliver |
Hi oliver2002,
If you want to send me your reservation number through a private message I'd be happy to take a look into this further for you? Kind regards, Louise.

PM sent. As mentioned above, I did write Sixt CR already.

Sixt CR US responded yesterday:
Dear Mr. [], Instances such as this one are unacceptable, therefore members of our senior management have been made aware of this occurrence and the extreme difficulty it caused you. Our management team has spoken to all the staff members concerned and I can assure you that steps are being taken to ensure that the errors made on this rental do not occur again. Can you please provide me with your contract number so I can send you your invoice as you have requested. Thank you for your e-mail. Best regards Abigail [] Customer Service Department Sixt Rent a Car, LLC |
Hmm... it seems my contract doesn't exist at all, so my rental was comped :)^
Dear Mr. xxxx, Thank you for your patience as we researched your inquiry. I was able to come to root of cause for you not seeing a charge for the rental on your card. I am pleased to inform that there will be no final invoice. As a frequent renter with Sixt we have decided to go ahead and fully compensate you for all the inconveniences that were faced during your last rental. We value our Sixt standards and are driven to provide the best service possible, and for this lack of service we do apologize. We hope that this good will gesture will help to soothe the angst caused by your past rental. We thank you for renting with Sixt and we hope that you consider us for future rentals! |
Well at least Sixt CS in US has their act together from what I can see above. Good decision to comp as what you describe is really so far away from any Sixt standard that I will not even bother and go straight to Hertz at LAX until their operation has been running for a while and better reports come in.

Does anyone know what they offer in the PCAR category? It says above they only offer American cars, but the representative examples are a Mercedes CLA, Volvo S60, or Audi A3. I don't know what the American equivalent is - a Chevy Malibu or Buick Le Sabre?
They're offering a good rate, but with the questionable reviews I'm not willing to take a chance just to get the same crap car I'd get from Avis. |

Hi Doppy.
I've checked this with the team at LAX for you now. They've confirmed that currently, they do not offer American cars for PCAR reservations. In this category will be the Volvo S60, Mercedes CLA, BMW 228, Audi A3 and the Hyundai Genesis. However they do not currently have the Genesis on their fleet. I hope this can help solve your query. Thanks, Jess.

I am considering a switch to SIXT instead of National as I'm fed up of the risk of getting Volvo's on LCAR reservations, but I was surprised to find when looking at prices that although price is comparable to the competition, if I rent from LAX I can't take the car to Utah or Colorado though I could take it all the way to Washington which isn't really any closer! Oddly if I rent from LAS instead I can get a bit further and Utah is allowed.
Is this really the case? I've never rented a vehicle with restrictions like this before. It really seems to make little sense - it can't be a coverage thing because Sixt will allow cars rented in Arizona to be driven in: California Colorado Utah New Mexico Nevada So if I was able to get to Arizona I could rent a car which would cover the states I want, including California, but if I rent from the same firm in California, I can't take it to Colorado? |
Is sixt coming to lax soon ???
You can drive it outside the allowed states as long as you agree to paid $0.50/mile. This will be part of the contract which you can refuse to sign.
In reality they probably wouldn't know if you took it those states unless you get into an accident or trigger a red light camera. |
That could add a significant amount to the cost of a rental though rendering the price uncompetitive. I don't like the idea of simply not mentioning it, either.
Just seems so bizarre, why can cars from Arizona go to California and Colorado but cars from California cannot go to Colorado? To rent with Sixt I'd have to one-way from LAX to PHX and then re-rent again, which seems completely stupid. |
Some creative milage calculations on my return paperwork
Just returned my car this afternoon to LAX, having picked it up at 11:30AM and returned it at 5:45PM (6 hours~). I'm looking at the paperwork for my return which was emailed to me and it lists:
Milage out: 3164 Milage in: 4000 Driven: 836 Ok so while im not charged for the miles or anything anyway so it doesn't matter, just struck me as odd that they would claim me as having driven 836 miles in 6 hours of purely city driving. Im not sure what my return milage was but heck i didnt even have to put gas in it |
I think this happens quite often. I just picked up a car where the last renter switched to km and as a result the 16,000 km on the odo was recorded by National as 16,000 miles on the contract when it should have been 10,000 miles. I'm going to have negative 5,550 miles when I return the car.

Hi
Does anyone know what cars SIXT LAX have in the FFAR category? Thanks |
Sixt Reply
Hi ariorfa,
The vehicles in the FFAR category at Sixt LAX are the Chevrolet Suburban and the Ford Expedition. These are both 7 seater, automatic vehicles. I hope this helps to solve your query. Thanks, Jess.

So you need to have separate categorys for Tahoe´s and Suburban´s since they clearly are not similar if you actually nedd a car for 7 persons! |
