Platinum
Booked: IDMR (1 Series)
Received: SDMR (Opel Insignia - 3 Series equivalent in size)

A fine upgrade; up until now, had no luck with real group upgrades (edit: IN PORTUGAL, elsewhere it is common practice), but I was very pleased this time.

The Insignia is a very underrated car in my opinion; it is not extremely comfortable in bumpy roads (harsh shocks), but otherwise has plenty of space, handles great in motorways, has a very good mileage and in my hands, it just felt great and I just love the overall styling.

Very pleased (yet again) with my experience with SIXT.

Hi,

I am booked with Sixt Rental car out of heathrow and wanted to know whey they charge for an additional driver. In the US there's no charge, it seems that they are trying to nickel and dime me. I got upset at that and wrote them back.

What are the best ways to get an upgrade at no charge, inasmuch as I see on a number of posts that customers returned the car with a full tank and nevertheless the rental agency charged them for the gas......

email me for responses to [email protected]

Thanks!

I will just point out that Sixt DOES charge extra for an additional driver here in the USA.

Check their terms for rentals in MIA or FLL.

Again, very nice experience with SIXT. Praise be given!

Great surprise with the new 2011 520d (F10). What a gearbox! Butter-smooth, intelligent as I have never tried before (and I have used a fair amount of them!). Cannot wait to try the more powerful versions (525d, 530d). Anyway, this car is pure perfection for long travel, and to boot I got a black paint / cream leather with piano black finish and high-end nav & 4-zone AC control, really really nice package.

HOLLY COW GOD DAMN

I've been dealing with Barajas for a while now and I have been lucky so far - but WOW that was indeed *great* luck you had there!

FDAR is a 3 series though, unless you booked IDAR (which would make your upgrade even greater!!).

Then again, what an extraordinary upgrade - a 535d no less woot!!!!!

Some rental companies exclude spouses from the addl driver charge. How about Sixt?

Received: PDAR (Mercedes E200 Auto)

This is the first time I rent with Sixt and I am extremely impressed.
I would consider this a very good upgrade. The car I got was a 2011 model with 20000 km. Although it has minor hail damage and I have problem playing with the build in GPS, this is an excellent car to drive.

BCN Airport
Sixt Platinum
booked: VW Golf or similar
received: BMW 1 series

fortunately took the insurance for tires (25 EUR)
50 km from BCN tire blown and Sixt brought us a replacement brand new Mercedes C200 after about 2 1/2 hours.

Tenerife Nord
Sixt Platinum (question by rental agent: what's that?)

booked: Opel Astra
received: very old, inside and outside very dirty, extremely scratched Opel Astra with more than 60000 km. I wouldn't dare to drive more than 100 km/h on the freeway, as it sounds and feels like it's going to fall apart!

This is a franchise location. Absolutely not up to Sixt standards. My second Sixt franchise experience. Both times terrible and absolutely no comparison to the usually very good "normal" Sixt product.

Please dear Mr. and Mrs. Sixt, stop franchising or make sure your franchisees more or less keep up to your company's usual standards!

Liked the XF more than the XJ - am seriously considering buying one. The BMW 530d is a seriously nice motor too!

Those upgrades make me want to switch to Sixt. I'm traveling to Belgium next month and am Diamond as well. Only thing is, rates are sort of expensive...

OPO (Porto Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport - Portugal)
Platinum
Booked: IDMR (1 Series)
Received: SWMR (VW Passat StationWagon, or Variant as it is actually called)

Fine upgrade, got the BlueMotion TDI version - engine (1.6 , 105hp) a bit on the small size for such a large car, but very economical indeed.

And for large, I mean LONG - indeed, the station wagon is long enough to make parking maneuvers a delicate operation without sensors (curiously not present).

Yet again, a nice rental, and good experience with SIXT. :-:
