SIXT - Upgrades
 

Hey, US rental car companies do it...let's see what Regina Sixt has up her sleeve...

Basic rules:

- Status
- Location
- Car Class Reserved (sample car)
- Car Received (you can include details)

My turn:

- Gold at the time
- Duesseldorf HBF
- Smart
- BMW 118d

Reserved a SMART for a week and used an Upgrade voucher. Called to extend and kept the car for 4 weeks for the same SMART weekly rate...SWEET :)

-The wonderfull peugeot 308cc!! for 2 weeks :)

I know - was most unexpected. Great car.

Obviously since i've had my Platinum card I haven't recieved a single upgrade worth writing home about.

Thats about as a good an upgrade as one could wish for!

Had the Bmw 730d in Malaga last month - what an awesome car. 900km from a tank.

Do you get upgraded all the time with the Diamond card or is it as sporadic as the Platinum..??

From my experience Diamond is really makes a difference. For me it is not (all) about the upgrades but also the chance to get an automatic or a Diesel if you what to. And the agents definitely go the extra miles and try to fulfill such special requests. ^

Just out of interest do you guys ever call a day before and ask about an upgrade or you prefer to wait until arriving at the hire station and dealing with it there..??

I would never call and ask for an upgrade and have also never done so in the past. If I need a car of a certain size for whatever reason I simply book it because I do not want to relay on the goodwill of the rental car company. Upgrades are certainly nice but I don't ask for one even at the station. I don't mind driving in a Golf or Smart. If I need a bigger car I will reserve it.

I would ask for another car if I don't like the one they offer but that's a different sorry: Once I reserved CLMR (Golf) and Sixt wanted to upgrade me to a X5 or Pathfinder. As I just wanted to have a small car to drive from A to B in a city and hence I insisted on getting a small car. I was even willing to downgrade if needed but in the end they could offer a suitable one.

If I want a particular car then I book that (same as business class seats when flying) but if my status allows me an upgrade when permitted then it's nice to get those as a 'bonus'.

For example booked a BMW 3 Series for next week in Nice but if my Platinum card gets me into something nicer then thats great, if not no sweat.

I guess this is the best upgrade I´ve ever heard of.

Could this be some other car? As someone who drives an E55 as an everyday car and has followed AMG for many years, I am not aware of an E55 coupe model.

I have heard Sixt does have a few AMG cars in the fleet now and then.

Kindly declined and went to Europcar to pick up Audi A3 SB for 10 euros more... these guys claim they are always sold out :eek:

Well I booked and got a brand new (450km on the clock) VW Golf Diesel so no upgrade unfort but no complaints either. Great car though, really comfy. Liked it a lot.

Talking of upgrades though there were two guys (total tools) at the Sixt counter next to me who were harassing the poor girl serving them for not giving them an upgrade. They were getting so irate the manager had to intervene and tell them to cool it!

Probably they were "sold out". Actually Sixt reduced their fleet in the last year to have a better utilisation of their cars. From what I understand they were/are quite successful with their strategy.

Those kind of updated couldn´t be expected even for Diamond-card holders.
Sure it was a M3?

I really had several phantastic upgrades with Sixt but never was handed out the M3.
