Plainly I'm doing something wrong, received very poorly every time I go to the desk even though I try to use the scanner and have all paperwork, passport and cards immediately to hand

Platinum, booked X1 received Tiguan
Platinum, booked X1 received Kia Sportage (which by the way feels like it was made in the eighties and for its size is really small inside !)

for the Kia I was told there were no upgrades available as there were no vehicles free in this 'high season'

Asked if I could pay to upgrade to an X3...

Yes certainly €210 for the week

Going back to Hertz, SIXT Platinum seems utterly pointless especially after being treated so poorly at DUS by a recalcitrant staffer

Just picked up my rental booked as CFAR and as Plat. I could've picked a GMC Acadia (which apparently was an SFAR) on the app but was interested in what the counter had, but the Acadia was just given out to the couple before me. At the counter I was told I was being upgraded to a Jeep Compass, which ended up being the very base model and had no backup camera or even auto-headlights. Is a Jeep Compass really an IFAR?

On a side note, with this Jeep rental and my last experience with a Jeep, I don't think I ever want to drive a Jeep again. Absolutely no power, holy cow.

Had a Jeep Compass a few weeks ago from Hertz and I agree about the power. Merging on the highway was pretty exciting. The family called it the "lawnmower". Surprised to hear they have them at Sixt!

At both LAX and SFO we were supposed to get an Acadia (even checked in with their app), but ended up with some other ridiculous small vehicle (I think it was a BMW X4, hardly any room for suitcases) they considered an "SUV" at LAX, said we were receiving an upgrade, had to then protest and we got a Nissan Pathfinder or something like that.

At SFO, it was beyond crazy - people were lined up outside the small office at the hotel, we waited 2 hours to get our vehicle. Wanted an Acadia, but even though they were coming in and going, all were either assigned or were going to be cleaned.

Then they tried to palm off a Jeep on us as well, but I refused. There were absolutely no choices as they were effectively oversold. Ended up with a Nissan Armada (which was *h u g e*), fine until we traversed the hills in the city - one couldn't see down over the hood, much less down the hill when cresting the top!

The agent at SFO also sold us the Golden Gate Bridge tolll "pass" for the days we were there, lying that the toll was quadruple the amount that it actually was! (We even told him were only crossing it once, and he still pushed this and convinced us by lying to us...)

2hrs to pick up a car is not acceptable. I would make a huge complaint about this.

Jeeps can be okay if you get the right car (Grand Cherokee Limited). Everything else Jeep is not as good.

Golden Gate Bridge Toll requires Fastrak. No exceptions unless you prepay ahead of time. There are no booth agents and it is all electronic. Rental car agencies in the Bay Area charge you a daily fee to use the Fastrak on top of the bridge toll. Not much you can do unless you prepay ahead of time, which you can't until you get the license plate number off the car.

What do they say about generalizing? While I'm not a Jeep fan, there are plenty of Jeeps out there that have more than adequate power. Which doesn't mean the Compass isn't a consummate POS, but I wouldn't judge all Jeeps on it.

Sure, my experience is limited to the Compass and the Cherokee. It certainly makes me wonder what those Grand Cherokees drive like...

The Jeep Compass that rental companies give is just terrible. I agree with the weak power or feeling of that. Most of us at National try to get the Grand Cherokee since it comes very well equipped and drives very well.

You can refer to these threads for some reviews.

Concur with this - National is the only one that usually has them on demand when booked...

The Grand Cherokee is my SUV of choice.

Trying to buy one for India - but even the CEO of Fiat-Chrysler here is not even responding to my request to buy one and will have to go with a Toyota Fortuner POS (with abolutely no rear bumper - just a plastic cover!) and way overpriced.

Will have to sell it once the Ford Everest/Endeavour comes into the market.

Forget Jeep/Fiat - they failed in terms of service and failed to seize an opportunity!
