Why do code share flights exist in SQ?
Hi,
I'm a newbe on Star Alliance (for international travel) and this week was my first flight on Singapore with a connecting fight on code share SQ5618. I'm *G now with most of my background/experiences with OW.
What I learned was the SQ code share:
- doesn't earn miles
- doesn't allow lounge access (thanks for the feedback on the other thread)
- doesn't allow check-in with SQ. It must be done with Malaysia.
Admittedly I am more a OW flier with AA Plat and normally have flown Cathay to Asia but I now dislike their new economy seats so much that it drove me to look for alternatives. Cathay Code shares with Malaysia does allow each of the 3 items above.
If SQ doesn't allow any of these 3 items on a code share does anyone know why they have them at all? And why someone would conciously book one?
And now Malaysia Airlines is telling me they can't enter my Delta # because its an SQ flight. Seems they really screw people with this scheme of code share with no benefits and cutting of the ability to ear miles with the other carrier's alliance.
If anything it seems like I loose miles that I could have received with Malaysia by selecting a code share and don't see any advantage in return.
Thanks
