valid for bookings till 31st Jan. do remember to check for the qualifying airlines.

This time Citibank is smart. From the T&C, seems like the bonus points/miles will be in once the charge is posted and not wait 2 months later, it the same as the UOB promotion. Means it MUST be made at this website and not the normal Expedia website because the transaction has extra codes when posted.

Can someone volunteer to make a transaction at Expedia with your Citibank card and let us know?

Yeah - mine taught me a bit more.. Said 'by end dec' can mean anytime b/w now and dec... saying 31 dec means exactly on that date..

No rush, just curious.. in this hobby, sometimes helps to keep checking your points. Never know when some one (lets say UOB) decides to deduct your 7500 points.. :p

So far can earn 5400miles by spending only $22.50 (if 30days a month)

That is 0.00416 per mile

Wow 2.6% per transaction...

vade Dec 26, 2016 9:00 pm

Yes, 2.6% is on the high side, but assuming you can get 4mpd through this, then it might be worth considering since otherwise you'll just be paying cash and not getting anything at all.

Simplistic calculation: For $10,000, the transaction fee is $260. Based on 4mpd, you will get approx. 41k miles. So basically, you are paying $260 for 41k miles. Not too bad, no?

:D^

Seems it's only for paying rent and nothing else? Wouldn't apply to most of us locals then...

I just signed up for an account. At the moment, I see that it can be used for the following categories: rent, education, condo fees and insurance. HDB fees, income tax, school bus, mortgage, car servicing are listed as "coming soon".

The biggest question I have is if paying through this qualifies as "online" and whether it will earn 4mpd either through DBSWWMC or HSBC Advance.

These seem to be blooming like mushrooms.

The first was ipaymy with same 2.6% fee:

Tried & tested. The charge looks different from normal Expedia charges and the bonus 14x is posted once the charge is posted.

Yes, seems like it. As others said, this "may" make sense if one can generate 4mls/$. However, knowing the banks, at some stage they may classify it as non-earning spend and it'll die away as soon as it sprouted up.

If one assumes a more realistic general spending card earning of 1.2mls for local transactions then this becomes around 0.0216 $/mls and that is more than what we buy miles for during renewal of Citi PM or DBS Altitude. YMMV.

I have such a "wire transfer" feature on a European credit card for use in the country of issuance and it charges 2.5% these days up from 1.25% years ago. I use it to pay certain fees and utility costs for my mother as that will keep the points active, but it is on the expensive side. On the upside, no issue with charges not qualifying due to MCC or so which isn't a given with this method via a third party provider.

Also it is unclear to me what would happen if they fold (assuming the worst) and charged your card, but haven't paid the recipient yet? I love my miles as much as the rest here, but I love my cash even more ;).

It looks similar to an Expedia charge during the previous promotions.

Wonder if the shopback feature still works...
