The thing is that I will be getting enough segments next year to get to PLT. Now, they offered me this challenge to get a head start. I was told that since my challenge starts in Dec 06, I do not need any qualifying AA flights (is this also true).

My upcoming flights are with
QF (0.5 qp, domestic which I can maybe try and push it up to 1qp earning and 1.5 qp earning later by paying a bit more) and
BA (0.25 qp, domestic+EU). I need t0 get 5k within this 3 months. I am wondering if this challenge it worth it?

Thanks for the advise.

Since you are already going to make "natural" PLT on segments, I wouldn't upfare any of these to make GLD before that. If the flights you have would generate enough points as is to make the GLD challenge, no reason not to get the head start...except...if you, for some reason, need to challenge in the near future (let's say you don't make PLT the following year and want to challenge), it seems that they're tightening on repeat challenges, so doing one now may make it tougher in the future.

Will you have GLD long enough before the PLT to matter much?

And, from what we've heard, because you start in Dec, it doesn't seem like you'll be subject to the AA-flight-only rule.

Cheers.

CX I-class earns 1.25 EQM and 1.5 EQP per mile flown. I'm assuming the 100% bonus is on the base and not the 1.25. Assuming that I should have earned the following:

Code:
                 Mi Cum Q-pts Cum Mi
HKG-MEL 4,588 6,882 5,735
MEL-HKG 4,588 13,764 20,646
Does that look right?
No - too many cumulative miles. Multiply the qualifying leg by 2.25 and add it to the 5735. Comes out to 16058. QPts are okay.

A few days. But it seems AA.com has been very buggy the past few days so I'd give it a bit of leeway. (Not sure if the bugginess is just the user interface or if there's something awry in the heart of the beast.)

It has now been over a week. The online form to claim credit says I need to wait 15 days. The only reason that I'm antsy is that it is in the middle of a challenge. My challenge won't be completed if the miles don't post. *sigh*

Patience is a virtue. My flights just posted. Thank you all, I am now PLT!

Lan Eqm?

I qualify for status by EQM, not EQP, as I usually buy discount coach tix.

I'm looking to try LAN from MIA/LIM. AA's site says:

https://www.aa.com/apps/AAdvantage/V...artnersContent

I know I would earn 50% or 100% EQP based on fare code. But as far as EQM, am I in the clear to earn 100%? Another example, IB discount economy earns 30%. In other words are the amount of miles accrued EQM? Thanks!

The 100% in the "mileage accrual percentage" column on that page, along with the statement in the first paragraph that says the mileage is elite-qualifying, would probably indicate that the fares do, indeed, earn 100 percent Q-miles.

Q-miles and Q-points are earned on all oneworld fares that would ordinarily earn miles, as well as eligible flights on Alaska Airlines.

Using AA miles to Australia

New to the board....

Can someone point me to the best way to use AA miles to Australia? I wish to use business class or first class miles. Also willing to go through Hong Kong, Auckland or any other city to get there.

Welcome...

Have you read the thread below this one? It gives you most of the answers you need.

Try reading the rules on AA.com as well. The short answer is to check out QF,JL and CX

http://www.oneworld.com/ow/airports-...s/where-we-fly.

Read up on these and then come back and ask more questions..

Oops. Stupid mistake. Please spare me

If I don't see a bonus or change in status online as soon as the flight posts, does this mean that those 1,233 EQPs definitely didn't count towards the 10,000 or could there be a delay?

I would call up and ask. It should have posted when the last segment posted. Good luck.

Sitting in an AC in Miami killing a five hour window before departure and out of boredom decided to browse flyertalk ;=)

ok, I've only casually read through all these pages, but here's my question. Since I see virtually no mention of credit card miles can I assume that a Platinum Challenge can only be satisfied with actaul miles flown on a trip?

Also, is the advice to wait unti after June to issue a challenge because of the length of time a platinum status will be enjoyed if the challenge is satisfied?

Thanks!

Welcome to FT, bradesp .

Yes, and yes. Your brief browsing has already done you well

Of course, now you have to come back for reasons other than boredom.

Cheers.

Technically, not miles, points, and yes, only with ye butt in ye seat.

Yes, but the price paid is that you forego the bonus miles and upgrades while you're waitin'. If you think you're going to be able to renew in the following year, then it shouldn't be an impediment.

25th Anniversary Elite Rewards Offer

I qualified for EXP right at the end of 2006 with 100,986 qpoints. I'm unsure as to what reward I will receive, if any, given that I was PLT during 2006. I'm short of the 125,000 or more for the EXP level but exceeded the 99,999 level for PLT.

Could it be that I will receive nothing?
