Thanks for the reviews on the Sheraton Brookhollow.
Now I am a bit concerned since most of the reviews seem to give the hotel Hairballs and paws down.
My options could be:
*Stick it out here.
*Switch to the Four Points Houston (which I stayed and found a pretty good hotel. As a good and very wise friend says basically I'm only there to sleep and shower up. The only negative is that it is a bit far from everything. However, I have friends who can get me there and around.)
*Wait and see if the Sheraton Suites rates go down (in the past five years about 10 days before my New Year's Eve/birthday arrival they drop to a budgetable level. I will not spend $219 for the suites. $129 maybe.)
FYI: I don't think a Sheraton Suites would have any upgrade except to the upper floors which are called SPG floors. Aren't all the rooms basically the same?
I'm surprised to hear about the poor customer service there. I've stayed there for the past seven years. I have NEVER had a bad experience, as a Gold or a Platinum. They even remembe rme say "Welcome back."
The last two years I found a birthday cake in my room on New Year's Eve/my birthday. Nice surprise.
I look forward to my next Texas trip and getting some nice Shiner Bock. I even bring a few bottles home (although with the TSA rules now... I may have to ship.)

I wholeheartedly concur with ALCO about the beer selection at the Flying Saucer. If you could drink beers all day (and night) long, and never drink the same one twice, it should take the better part of a week to get thru their offerings.

In general, I found the attitude to be one of complete indifference...All in all, though, I think this hotel needs a lot of work- it is certainly not up to par compared with the other Sheratons I have stayed at recently, although the prices are downright inexpensive.
To be honest, for the $59-$69 night I've paid to stay in this hotel, I didn't really expect much in the way of service. I never had any problems with check-in, though it seems your experiences with staff were rather frustrating/unpleasant. For the price paid, though, I really liked the room. Bedroom may have been a tad on the small side, but well-appointed and definitely looked new & spiffy. The location sucks, but it's only a few mins drive to the Galleria or Downtown. For the price, I don't think this hotel can be beat in Houston. Have not stayed at the 4P, though.

I've decided to stick to "tradition" and got a good rate at the Sheraton Suites Galleria Houston so back I go for New Year's/birthday weekend.
I have read some complaints about this property but I can't recall ever having a bad experience. It does not have a Club Room or fancy surrounding but the rooms are spacious and the staff helpful. The funny thing is I never thought of asking for the Breakfast voucher at check in... I can't remember if I got vouchers or not. (Normally since I'm on vacation I'm earning double snoring miles in the Sweet Sleeper bed.)
I'll do an updated report on the Suites when I stay later this month.
I like the Four Points Houston and it's a good backup hotel. When I stayed there two years ago I came in expecting average and found it a nice hotel.
Maybe one of these days I should take the plunge and try the Sheraton Brookhollow and then write a report.
To go OMNI and Plus, I look forward to having Shiner Bock again. I"m a fan like you Lurker (now if I could only bring a few bottles back to NJ, but those TSA rules on liquids.
)

I stayed there twice in the past week. Both stays resulted in Junior Suite upgrades to the 10th Floor (Highest Floor, Club Level). The hotel has completed its renovations, with a nice bar/restaurant now on the ground floor. The rooms (Club level, at least), are modern and nicely furnished, with a fairly standard (not exemplary) Sheraton bathroom. Overall, I would say the new furnishings and renovations at this hotel make it close to the Sheraton Gateway Toronto Airport & Sheraton AMS in terms of quality. Also, club lounge is on floor 9 (I did not visit it, and it is closed on the weekends, but they comp Plats full breakfast in the restaurant on Weekend stays).
The Junior suites are approx 350-400 sq. ft., with a sitting-area off to one side by the windows. One of the Junior Suites I stayed in had a new 40+ inch Samsung LCD TV on a swinging wall-mount, whereas the other had an older, standard TV. Both had heavenly beds, with the sofa in the sitting area turning into a bed as well.
This is my current favorite property in Houston. There may not be anything in the immediate vicinity (except, perhaps, the St. Arnold's Micro-Brewery), but it does not take more than a few minutes to get to the Galleria or Downtown at all but peak Rush Hour times.

i just stayed there for two nights. i stayed on the 7th floor of the 9 floor property. i was originally put on the 8th floor (floors 8 and 9 are club level) but i wanted a suite and all they had was the 7th floor. i actually was put in a junior suite. the junior suite had a flat screen TV. WIRED INTERNET ACCESS WAS FREE.
the club lounge was closed so there wasn't any real point to stay on a club level floor since the agent told me that all floors were remodeled. floors 8 and 9 are key-entry only.
as the lounge was closed, i was offered free continental breakfast. it cost me $3.99 to upgrade to a full buffet breakfast which was good.
service was solid....front desk agents and restaurant server were nice.
the gym is very small but serviceable.
what else? i got my rate via http://www.starwoodhotels.com/promot...egory=GENDRE_H.
it ended up being only $52 per night...so, not a bad deal at all. there is a rather run down shopping mall near the hotel. the front desk agent even warned me to be careful when i visited. but, i forgot socks and also wanted a chick fil a sandwich, something that is hard to find in the northeast.

I just stayed there for two nights this week. It was very pleasant, the room has recently been remodeled, nice flat screen TV with some HD channels, the club lounge was excellent, self service bar and great appetizer's. Would definitely stay there again.

Im in a suite on the 10th floor. Club lounge is on 9th floor but was decent this afternoon. Upgraded amenities include, 3 OZ Shave cream and a scrubby along with the usual Bliss products as well. The Flat screens are a nice addition as well in each room as well as the free internet ++
The hotel has improved greatly since my last visit two years ago. Ill be back.

Great Selection for the Money
I stay at the Sheraton Brookhollow every week from Monday through Thursday, and I can honestly say that I consider it an excellent value given the rates that I pay. Here's my breakdown:
The Good:
They have a club floor lounge with excellent service, free beverages and snacks every evening, and a decent breakfast in the AM.
They are in the process of renovating the hotel, and all rooms above floor seven feature HD flat panel LCD screens.
Front desk staff are excellent, and have always gone out of their way to take great care of me, even before they realized I would be staying there 150+ nights per year.
They have free HSIA access in all of the rooms, and free wireless access in the club floor lounge.
The Bad:
The renovation is taking a LOOONG time, and they have had at least one elevator out of service every week since I first stayed here in November.
The bar is severely understaffed, and it can take a very long time to be served if you sit at one of the tables instead of the bar (though the staff are very friendly and do their best).
The restaurant is not too great, and it is a bit overpriced for dinner.
There is no wireless HSIA in the rooms.
The location is a bit out of the way, and is really tough if you don't have a car. That said, the Galleria is 10 mins away, so I've never really had a problem.
Overall, I think that the hotel is great value for the money.

From what I understand they only offer junior suites even though my email confirmation mentioned a "suite". Also... I was able to "roll the dice" for additional SPG points whilst checking in. Of course, I rolled a 6 = 600 extra points and even received a nice white teddy bear from the front desk staff. They seem to have a few boxes of them....

Need to go to Houston for the weekend and the 104 price with breakfast is great... but the St Regis is only 70 more per night. TA has recent reviews praising the hotel after Ike renovations. Any recent stays here by FTers?
