Looks like the XLR is coming to the Doha route. I've had a flight time change to allow slightly more time for the XLR over a 332 for a flight in February.

7th A321XLR is being delivered today. Only one left from the initial order - we will see if IAG decides to order extra frames (or convert existing A32xneo orders) as they seem to be happy with the performance of the model.

Just seen the latest Iberia press release about the next flight sale. It mentions various XLR routes with a price quoted for Premium Economy, which is weird since the XLR doesn't have a Y+ cabin…

Perhaps YYZ won't be entirely an XLR route then.

Very interesting.

Or maybe IB has changed their mind and is (retro)fitting an Y+ cabin, like AA and UA has done...

Well, I can't seem to get YYZ to price up in prem eco on a dummy booking. So who knows. Might be a JV fare on AA/BA.

Just off this plane on the 17:00 departure from JFK. Not a great experience in J. Boarding was late, probably due to cleaning. There was no service at all in the J cabin prior to pushback. After departure menus were distributed and a small appetizer was served. Then a drink service and finally the meal. I don’t fly IB much so I can’t say how “normal” my experience was. Service was very slow and the meal was warm at best. Desert was on the menu but never offered. One drink refill was offered and then the FA’s disappeared into the galley where they chatted for the next three hours.

I declined breakfast so I don’t know how that was. The seats are simply too narrow for a good experience. Fine if you are sitting up, and ok if fully flat but very cramped and uncomfortable anywhere in between.

The single aisle feels claustrophobic. Only having one lav means a constant line of people waiting in a small space.

I will be avoiding this plane when I can.

I did not really enjoy the XLR in economy, even in an exit row seat; having to trudge to the back (3 lavs there at least) for toilets felt odd. It just kind of felt claustrophobic.

Unfortunately, with the winter storm forcing me to rebook into economy on the A330, I won't have my own datapoint to share about the J seat on the XLR.

Thank you for your sacrifice....so the R21 bulkhead are the only acceptable seats as they have legroom and can recline?

Beauty of the XLR J seats...every seat is equally meh (but private), unlike the widebodies...great for late booking OPMs

Row 29 is the second row of emergency exits and can recline, I still didn't really enjoy it though.

Have enough people learned to at least use the third lav with the jumpseat on the door?

I had some flights when it was pretty new and people were scared to open that door or thought it was just for crew or something because of the seat on the door.

I finally got a chance to try the XLR, on a flight to Zurich.

The originally scheduled plane was a regular A321. One day before the flight, I get a message from Iberia saying that the plane had changed and they had assigned me a new seat with the same characteristics. I had, like always, an emergency-exit seat and my new one was in row 28. This meant XLR, so I opened my booking and was immediately offered an upgrade to business class for € 109. I declined, but I was tempted to place the lowest possible SeatBoost bid (the first time I have used this system), for € 47. The upgrade cleared and I got to satisfy my curiosity.

I flew the 321XLR in row 21 (front-most row in Y) to DOH last week. A little better than 29 (exit row) but not by much. Aisle is too narrow and during meal services the rear two toilets were out of service as the crew had to park their trollies in front of them, leaving just one usable lav for all of economy. Not enough space and not a good experience. Sure it's better in J but my 515€ upgrade bid failed.

Daughter flew SJU MAD LHR today. Described the XLR as horrific in Y and taking it up with work on Monday. The travel policy might be Y but there is Y - then there is flying on a shorthaul aircraft for 8 hours.

Needless to say things didnt improve when she found she was on BA to LHR and on arrival no bag. 9 further flights today from MAD but bag still in T4S and might fly tomorrow. Inept!

I get people have different preferences, but I honestly don't understand why it's so different to sit in literally the same seat with the same amount of personal space. It's not a short haul aircraft, it has the long-haul seats.
