help with upgrade/companion vouchers

i am having huge issues trying to use my 2 vouchers to get me and Mrs FB an Upper class return MCO_LHR-TPA in August

about 3 weeks ago i called VS and a very nice lady (I swear Im right) told me use voucher number 1 for up to 150,000 miles to book my return then use number 2 for my wife to 'companion' . Easy, or so i thought.
Having achieved Silver and got more miles I called yesterday to book, ah not so easy. the guy basically said I had to
Buy a revenue ticket in Econ , pay the fare and taxes , use the voucher to upgrade to UC AND then pay more taxes, so I am paying tow lots.
THEN use the companion ticket and again pay both sets of taxes. he stated that having checked the call log of my first call, that was what i was told, I dispute that.

After 48 minutes and losing the will to live , i asked for a copy of the call log from the previous call, just to check, and this morning got an email from Customer service saying, yes you can have it but it may take a month to get it,(when he found it ,allegedly, in two minutes) I cant wait that long to book, so my question is , who is right and whats the best way to use both vouchers ?

Thanks for any help

I am trying to find info on the Companion ticket. I have not used this for a couple of years and, now, cannot find any detail on the site. The FAQs reference Silver/Gold vouchers but not for Red.
Suggestions?
Thank you.

The information is on the website Flying Club reward vouchers | Spend on flights | Reward flights | Virgin Atlantic
Now each voucher has a maximum points value based on your tier. If Red a voucher will be worth up to 75,000 points, and for Silver and Gold its up to 150,000 points.
To use as companion vouchers
Buy a ticket with either points or pounds and use your voucher to bring a companion along with you - either on a round trip, or two one-way flights. standard taxes, fees and charges will apply.

that's what I thought but not how it was described to me last call

i wanted to "buy" an UC ticket using my voucher for 150,000 miles and yes pay taxes
then use my other voucher for an UC ticket again just paying taxes

I was told I had to purchase a revenue Econ ticket and pay for ticket and taxes, THEN upgrade using miles and pay the UC taxes as well, so a double whammy
and THEN pay EC and UC taxes on my companion

Im going to try again today or tomorrow

well, to update, I finally got it resolved yesterday with a much better infirmed and very helpful agent over the phone.
My ticket was a revenue econ then voucher upgrade to UC and only paying the extra taxes
then I used the second voucher as a companion ticket paying only UC taxes. end result my total outlay was over a thousand dollars less than last weeks "this is the best deal" cr@p
i then used the savings to book the Retreat Suite making Mrs FB very happy and winning some severe brownie points.

I'm trying to see the difference between what was originally told to you, and what eventually happened.

It seems in both instances you were told to buy a Y ticket, upgrade it with voucher 1, and then use voucher 2 to buy a companion voucher in the upgraded class. So what's the differenvce in the taxes you were first told to pay v the taxes you ended up paying?

maybe i wasn't clear, its been confusing enough.
call number 1 i was told buy a reward ticket using the 150k miles on my voucher and just pay UC taxes. I ended up buying a Y revenue and paying Y taxes plus the difference up to UC. call 2 was saying pay both taxes in full and the same for the companion voucher. Call 2 i was quoted over $4500 as "the cheapest option" , I actually paid around $3500

Confusing alright!!! So correct me if I am wrong but I thought the voucher for 150K points can not be used to purchase a ticket (in any class) outright. It can only be used to upgrade an existing ticket (bought for points or cash)?? Or of course can be used to buy a companion ticket?

it certainly is, but yes, you have to "purchase" a ticket with money or miles then use the extra miles (150k if silver or gold) to upgrade. its a nightmare for sure

Youve got to remember what the vouchers are:

Either an upgrade voucher (that can be used for up to 150,000 points + extra taxes cost) to upgrade a flight (either cash flight or points flight) or:
A Companion voucher (companion flies in same class but you pay taxes).

The voucher cannot be used to buy a ticket on its own.

Having followed the above and gone through all the pages on the website: It is remarkable how much DL (gosh, I mean VS) have increased the points required since I last did this in Nov 2024. I do not have a voucher as my current points have not recovered enough since last time and it doesn't really look to be worth the while to accrue the points anyway.

I appreciate the guidance in this thread.

VS introduced dynamic pricing in the autumn of 2024 which would explain the apparent increase in prices as other than a small number of saver level redemptions the points required follows revenue pricing,

it takes some serious shopping. My main route is TPA-LHR I just started looking for next Jan/Feb one day UC is over 200,000 Feb 3rd its just 29,000 !! Flexibility is the key

i will say the Reward seat checker on the website is very user friendly
