Do the credit cards not come with an annual fee? Doesn't Marriott make a lot of $$ off of the co-branded credit card business. Those nights aren't free to the cardholder.
In the airline world, there are some airlines that make more $$ from the FF scheme, largely on the back of co-branded cards, than they do flying people around.
Now back to the promo, it's designed to drive specific behaviour not to appease a particular cohort of Bonvoy members who show up to hue and cry on FT.

Yesterday i posted two links about Marriott corporation and the stock price jumping 9% at the open from the previous day closing. One of the headlines was the future outlook where Marriott CEO cisted new deal for credit cards looking favourable. Yes, Marriott makes money from CC's.
Unfortunately, the moderators removed the post .... but very relevant is the financial position of owner of any Loyalty Program, which can affect loyalty program benefits, offers, etc
Perhaps moderators will see / understand the connection and relevance.

Marriott Spring promotions have impacted my stays. Based on the past few spring promotions, I have scheduled vacation time and vacations in March instead of February, in order to benefit from any possible promotion. March works for me since I like to also travel in October in the fall. This year’s spring promotion isn’t as strong as last year’s. I won’t whine or complain, but promotions often impact the FT community differently than the average traveler. The 2026 spring promotion on offer is still good for short weekend trips, so I may add Bonvoy stays on a couple of weekend trips in April. If future spring promotions are more like this year’s than last year’s, I probably won’t try to plan spring travel as much within speculative promotion time windows.

I'm guessing some (perhaps slightly OCD) FTer may have already taken the full list of brands, removed the ones that aren't eligible for this promo, and put it in a neat list to tick off while planning travels? If so, please share!

I read the following in the T&C: "A Member who elects to earn Miles is not eligible for this promotion". What do they mean with that, anyone has a guess? Is that the linking of your Bonvoy Account with Miles&More or Emirates Skywards?

I want to guess that it's if you credit your night explicitly to a different loyalty program...? Though I figure that's quite obvious and not worth mentioning into something that covers their bums like the T&C...?

That would be me. I travel where and when I'm going to travel. If some bonus points arrive in my account afterwards, great!

Well, there are a multitude of Marriott hotel brands beyond what they call "Luxury" or "Premium". The Select Brands include: Courtyard, Four Points, SpringHill Suites, Fairfield, AC, aloft, moxy, protea (mostly for Africa), City Express and Four Points Express. The Longer Stays include: Residence Inn, Towneplace Suites, element, studiores as well as three others that are unlikely to be used by short term staying business travelers. If your trips take you to places with the Select and Longer Stay Brands, you could ask yourself, if an employee who reported to me said that they'd be interested in trying some of these, what your response would be as well as what would make you want to approve. Similar approach might be taken with your manager. That way, you've at least had the discussion and opened the door to trying places.

Interesting suggestion. But this is a bit too much work for too little gain.
If my staff want to try some of those other properties, they are certainly open to try, as long as they do not give me unnecessary busy work. I have no time nor the inclination for that.
Before booking in Concur, we have to seek approval from our managers for the spend. The approval generates a reference number which must be assigned to the Concur booking.
My staff could certainly try a different brand daily for the entire trip, but I would be annoyed if it is was a 5 day business trip and they decided to do 5 different brands thus requesting me to approve 5 different spend for the one trip (that reference code I mentioned can only be used once per booking which will also need to be used to reconcile their expense reports.) I would then have to approve 5 different expense reports for the one trip. Nope! No can do.
I can't fault Marriott for doing what works for it. I'm just not going to play its game and continue to do what works for me. I did hear that Hilton will become the backup later this year. Will see how that pans out.

Well, if if the couple of properties are ...in another country/city far enough away that you must fly or otherwise the transport cost to get to the couple of properties is relatively "large", factor that and your time into the cost of those couple of properties , and is it worth the price including transport to/from the properties.

Yep, its about the CNY
The one elite night per brand is an interesting step back from the historic "double bonus nights" that has often led to many of us having a lot of bonus nights early in the year for many years.
I'm just sad that it starts after Chinese New Year (for good reason of course), as I'd have gotten four brands next week.

that would also be consistent with other promotions they’ve had in the past
just wish we could get a definitive answer one way or another in writing.
