It definitely isnt ideal, but Id just monitor the situation as the day progresses. If there is any sort of delay that gets posted, Id get on the phone or work with an agent at the airport to re-route. Since you mentioned you can go through London, there should be at least a few seats on the other BA/AA frequencies, or re-route to not touch JFK.
Even if the inbound is delayed, but your flight isnt delayed (putting aside padding), Id work with the EP desk or an agent to proactively move you. They dont have as much flexibility without a posted delay, but common sense typically prevails.

Hi all -
Domestic to international at JFK is down to 41 minutes - plus the flight into JFK is "always" late. My understanding is that MCT dom to int'l at JFK is 1:15, confirmed by lounge agents and ex plt agents. However, multiple AA ex plt desk agents (huca) have stated that because the scheduling folks say it is a legal connection there is nothing they can do. These agents have been adamant that if the schedule says it's ok, the rules on MCT don't matter (is this correct?). Add to this that it's an award flight with a connecting EU leg. I can get to LHR any number of ways on an award trip same day - on AA or BA - then get to the final destination, also with award availability, but we go from reasonable mileage to 400k ish if I do it myself. Not really sure what to do at this point??? Just see what happens? Continue huca'ing? There is no way this is possible as per AA requirements: " You must be at the gate and ready to board the plane: ... 30 minutes before departure for international flights," understanding there is still time before the gate door closes, this isn't going to be a fun connection.
Thanks in advance

Flying AA business from Rome to JFK in May. Scheduled arrival T8 is 14:30. Connecting to DL at T4 for a 16:20 flight to DTW. Have GE, Clear, and checked bags. Is there a bag drop after customs for DL at T8 or will I need to take the bags to T4 and check them there? Thoughts on timing??

With no bags this wouldn't be a problem, however as always the wait for your bags is the wild card. A Google search says DL's domestic bag cutoff time is 60 mins at JFK; That leaves you 50 mins to land, clear immigration, grab your bag, then take the train to T4 and check-in again with DL. Very tight.

Assuming these are separate tickets (?) your bag will only be tagged to JFK, you'll need to claim it at T8 then take it to T4 to check-in again and drop the bag with DL.

If your bag was already tagged to DTW you could drop it off at the bag recheck area in T8 after exiting customs and it would (in theory) make it's way over to T4 and onto your next flight.
However not surprisingly there's not a DL re-check counter after customs in T8, and I'm not aware of any type of kiosk or anything else there that would let you print a DL bag tag.

Where does one end up in terminal 8 intl to domestic Aa-aa but gates right next to each other past the tunnel (47,37)? Basically have to walk somewhere really far for immigration / luggage pickup then go back to the gate right next to the gate you got off of?

yes, everyone clears immigration under the area that used to be Bobby Vans, TSA screening, etc. theres elevators and escalators that bring you back upstairs for tsa screening and then youll need to walk back to your new gate.

Not always, there is a 2nd tunnel for gates in the 40s to transit internationally arriving passengers, this is more common, in my experience if you're arriving on a narrowbody aircraft like a 737 or A321 coming from Cancun or another place from within the Americas.
