Denied a Seat Belt Extender and Asked for My Passport on an HA Flight

This has never happened to me before, so I just want to share my experience and ask for your input.

I was on an HA flight from ICN to SEA.I got a whole row (three seats) to myself, so I tried to lie down and sleep.
However, the seat belt was too tight when I was lying down.

I asked for a seat belt extender, but the flight attendant refused.
I asked again, and the purser came over.
The purser told me that he was not allowed to lend me a seat belt extender for this reason.
Then, he said that if he lent me a seat belt extender, he would need my passport so he could file an FAA report for lending me the seat belt extender.

Have this ever happened to you?
What's your thoughts?
Thank you very much!

Were you in an exit row? I believe the FAA has ruled that you can't be in an exit row and also have a seatbelt extender.

OP, they guard those extenders like Fort Knox. People leave the plane and take them.

I have not been in this situation where I needed a belt extender - but it seems wise of you to request it so that you would not need to be awakened should there be turbulence.

I have never heard of filing an FAA report for using a seat belt extender.

I always ask for a seatbelt extender when I get the poor mans first class. So I can make sure I will be safe when I am sleeping.

The odd thing is that the purser wanted to report me to FAA for violating safety regulations about how I used the seatbelt extender.
Thats why I am very curious about the FAA regulations regarding seatbelt extender.

Tho I don't think FAA has any rules regarding extender use outside of exit rows, when you occupy 3 seats, you do have access to 3 sets of seat belts (3 belts and 3 buckles). I dont think there is any need for extender when you can use buckle from one set and belt from another seat. I have done this to my satisfaction.

I eventually did that but it was too tight and uncomfortable.
