Thank you. I'll go to E to check in
I was looking for food that I could take onboard. Since this flight leaves in the morning I will eat a big breakfast at the Marriott and then purchase something to eat on the plane.

More than once I've grabbed Chick Fil A on a cross terminal sprint -- beats Panda Express!
I do think there is a Landry's Seafood -- but have not eaten there...

Landry's Seafood was my go-to for a while because of the Priority Pass restaurant thing. Food was pretty good but the service got bad for a while, I think its better now that less people get PP Restaurant on their cards. Its in C south so not a far walk from E.
Hugo's is a Houston institution and in Terminal D, also a short walk.

What I like about the IAH food options is that there's always a good sandwich place nearby. Schlotzsky's, in the high-E gates, WhichWich, in the high C-gates, and Potbelly in the low C-gates. (I don't count subway, between C and E gates)

Perhaps it is just me, but I totally misunderstood the context of this thread with the first word. I was concerned for the OP.
My two cents wirth is the Centurion lounge is good, although packed these days. I rarely purchase food at airports.

Curious how you decide between an on-board meal or a meal you purchase in a concourse at the airport?

Well, crew meals aren't catered on every flight so, on many of them, I don't have an option of eating a catered meal on-board. There are also times where I'd prefer a sandwich to a plated meal. Depends on the circumstances.

If you have United Club access and a good connection time, I highly recommending making the stop at Club Fly and grabbing an item or two from there, its much better than the food in the lounges which I genuinely hate so much, at least the breakfast which is when I usually end up connecting through IAH.
But in general I do have to agree houston has some pretty good food options all around, although I absolutely HATE the OTG scan to order system
