Lyft and United Team Up to Offer Travelers New Rewards and Experiences
New collaboration turns daily rides into miles including 4X rewards on pre-scheduled airport rides
SAN FRANCISCO and CHICAGO November 5, 2025 Lyft riders within the United States can now earn airline miles every time they book an eligible ride, thanks to a new collaboration with United Airlines.
Lyft users who are also members of Uniteds loyalty program, MileagePlus, can link their accounts within the Lyft app, and earn*:
"This collaboration brings our brand purpose of 'serve and connect' to life in a powerful way," says Lyft CMO Brian Irving. "A large amount of our customers use Lyft for trips to the airport, so we're giving riders more value from rides they're already taking while making their entire travel journey more seamless."
Expected in early 2026, MileagePlus members will be able to redeem miles directly for rides through the Lyft app and will receive automated flight alerts and ride reminders for United travelers.
This collaboration is the first step toward creating a truly seamless travel experience for our membersfrom the moment they leave home to when they arrive at their destination, said Richard Nunn, CEO of United MileagePlus. By integrating Lyft into the MileagePlus ecosystem, were giving travelers more ways to earn rewards today and building toward a future where every part of the journey is connected, efficient, and rewarding, enriching the traveler journey.
Lyft users that link their MileagePlus account can take advantage of MileagePlus benefits including miles that never expire, no blackout dates, ticket purchasing with miles or a combination of miles and cash, no change fees on flight award tickets, and even pool miles with family and friends.

For people who also have a Bilt account, it may be a wash. For on demand/non-scheduled airport rides (my most frequent ride), Bilt is 2x vs 3x for UA.
But my experience has been that Lyft only awards UA miles on the base fare (excluding fees and tip), whereas for Bilt, it is based on the total. For the rides I have compared, Bilts 2x is almost equivalent to UAs 3x, and will give you more transfer partner options.

yes, less so than Uber, but still possible to get 15-20% in particular around the holidays.

Just received this email from UA offering a $35 Lyft credit because I was “one of the first” Premier members to link Lyft to UA. There’s a promo code below which you can add to Lyft:

I got the same one.
I've been using Lyfts more lately because of the United and Chase Sapphire partnerships, but I've noticed the Lyft cars tend to be older, dingier, and sometimes have trash on the floor.

I think the overall quality of both Ubers and Lyfts have declined over the years. You have to pay up to get premium cars. For solo business travel, I couldnt care less about the quality - as long as the car runs and the driver is well-rated, its fine by me. When Im traveling with my family to / from the airport, I will go for something bigger and nicer.
